Lost Boys & Co... Merry Christmas!  It is a testimony to clean living and incredible luck that you are in such marvelous shape!  Carry on! From the Bike path at Torrance Beach (#1) to the Pier crossing the Hermosa Alps (#2) there are no waves of which to speak.  So, far from it to bore you with minutiae, we'll direct your attention to Sunday the 27th (#3) and the bump we're seeing approaching the South Bay.  Looks like there's going to be some swell action as well as a wind and rain storm on Monday. "...I could tell that he had a flagrant case of rosacea on his nose and cheeks.  It was then that I think he might've spotted my reflection in the dining room mirror.  Damn it!  I had imagined that I was pretty well hidden, but had completely forgotten about the stupid mirror.  But he kept right to his task and honestly I think that he was also a little embarrassed by his skin condition....

(#1) W ell, look what Santa has in store for all the good South Bay kids this week.  Things will continue to build until New Year's Eve when we've got 4' to 5' swells and some medium periods...  Can we handle?  All will be revealed... T his morning (#2) things were gray and devolved into what some plunks would call rain.  No it wasn't REALLY rain, but it was something like rain, if you had never seen real rain.  Like you had read about it but not really seen it...  We went out and it was cold, like 48.3º in the air and 59.9º in the water.  The fact that there was no sun created a heat sink that drained even the most insulated body.  Meanwhile, the high yuletide was at 5:30am +5.0' and the low yuletide was at 12:33pm +1.0'.  This arrangement made for some backwash that rivaled the stuff we saw a couple of days ago with Mr. Christian riding these faux waves out to past the lineup...  Swells were out of the SW 225º at ...

H ere we go, two days until Christmas and Brendan Simmons, being the good Irish lad that he is, hugs it up with the elf (#1)!  It seems that the Irish have a way with Leprechauns, elves and gnomes.  A necessary talent at this special time of year...  He also had his way with his board "The Simmonizer" this morning.  You can order a "Simmonizer" from José built to your specifications T hings are calming a bit until the weekend (#2) and it was hazy this morning with 2 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 3.2kts and the sea surface rates a "glassy" this morning.  The water was 59.9º and the air was a goose-bumping 48.3º.  (No geese were bumped in the creation of this report.)  Low tide took it's time at 11:49am +1.6' and high tide will be at 5:21pm +3.3'.  We have a west swell out of 266º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' and all the good children got perfect little waves and the rest of us got bumpy nuggets...

S urf looks like it's holding steady for the next few days (#1).  There were some fun little ones this morning while the wind was offshore by 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  Visibility was 5 miles and it was alternately hazy and close.  The air temperature was 53.8º and the water is 58.6º. Low tide was at 10:49am +2.2' and high tide was at 3:58pm +3.4'.  We have a west swell out of 265º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' and everyone was trying to catch Paul Roustan's eye as he bobbed along the inside capturing the odd image...  W e've gotten some great cards this year, but our favorite has to be this one (#2) from Tandis and Jeremy printed on a N-95 mask!  When you straighten out the pleats it expands on the wishes of Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and goodbye to Covid infested 2020!  Very clever! Lost Boys & Co... S urf is looking pretty stable for the week (#1), running at about 2' to 3'.  Now if the tides and wind behave, we might have some good sessions.  Tweaking the color a bit this morning (#2) we had 20+ miles visibility under cloudless skies.  Winds were light offshore 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was a relatively warm 58.8º and the water was likewise chilly at 58.5º, suggesting that what is good for the air is not necessarily good for the water.  Low tide was at 9:24am +3.7' and high tide will be at 2:24pm +3.7'.  We have a west swell out of 267º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' with some chilly little crashers.  We're enjoying both the Winter Solstice this evening and the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn.  Tonight, unless you cheated with your telescope or binoculars, they appeared as one star in the western sky.  Some suggest that this same convergence gave rise to the story of th...

L ooked like everyone got the memo this morning (#1) and there were plenty of folks jockeying for some of the bigger ones.  If we can pry a couple of snaps from Roustan, we'll try and show Mr. Christian on the tube of the morning and Jah Morgan on one of the fattest outsides to roll through.  Tomorrow (#2) should be somewhat like this morning, but Sunday brings a reduction in the swell size, so if you're interested in bigger waves you've got one more day at least... T his morning we had clear skies and 15 miles visibility and winds from the southwest by 5kts.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air was chilly again at 48.8º and the water dropped a degree to 58º.  High tide was at 11:02am +5.6' and low tide will follow at 6:33pm -0.4'.  We have a west swell out of 266º at 3.3' and again it was bumping up to 4' to 5' with some fast but makeable sections.  Capitán Donaldo had a left that got him to about Mach 3 before he reached escape...

T he forecast (#1) tells us that the size of the surf is going to remain about the same, but the wind event that we experienced today might both affect the water temp (cool it down a couple of degrees) and the shape of the surf.  Capitán Donaldo thinks that it will help add some peakiness to the playing field.  Let us hope that he's right! I f you were checking it out this morning, you might have seen outsides that looked like #2.  A block long wall of water that managed to strike fear into the hearts of even the most steadfast gladiators.  It was partly cloudy and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were off by 3 to 5kts and the sea surface was smooth until mid-day when it turned and was funneling through at 15 to 20kts.  The air temp was 48.2º and the water is still holding at 59.2º.  High tide was at 10:15am +6.2' and low tide follows at 5:42pm -0.9'.  The swell claimed to be out of the west (266º) at 3.3', but it was 4' to 6' and...

I nitially sighted in Hermosa, these Red Foxes (#1) made their way along the sand to Manhattan, where they disappeared into the tree section looking for domestic not-so-wildlife to eat.  Why this is so much news has more to do with them running along the beach in broad daylight, rather than whether or not they're native to this habitat.  Heaven knows, there have been foxes on the beach for ages... A beautiful morning with some brilliant waves.  Like this left (#2) near the 10th St. tower.  Clear skies and 20+miles visibility with offshore winds at 3 to 5kts and smooth surface conditions.  The air temperature was 47.8º chilly and the water was 59.0º.  High tide was at 9:30am +6.7' and low tide will be at 4:53pm -1.3'.  We have a west swell out of 274º at 3.3' and it was 3' to 4-5'...  Some fun ones while the tide peaked things up... 65 years of surfing experience here, with Doc ? and Barahona Team Rider Dylan Roa...

Surf drops a bit mañana, (#1) but still looks fun.  We see John (#2) casting a long shadow and heading out after a rather spectacular right from 57/58 to the end of the berm.  Mostly sunny this morning and 20 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore, variable to 7kts and the sea surface was smooth until it turned.  The air was especially chilly at 45.5º and the water was 59.0º.  High tide was at 8:47am +7.0' and low tide will be at 4:05pm -1.6'.  We had a west swell out of 260º at 4.3' and it was 4' to 6' and pretty challenging.  We watched for most of the morning, finally Capitán Donaldo and Doc ? decided to go in...  We will note their opinions tomorrow... Last night we made our way to the Botanic Gardens (thanks to the Miloe's) on Crenshaw and caught their holiday light show.  The effect was especially brilliant in some of the larger trees (#3).  Also if you look closely to the left, you can see Jupiter and Saturn ...

T he loneliest Russian hooker in Los Angeles (#1)...  Taking a long walk on the short pier, so to speak.  Have you had the coffee from the Green Store, with OAT MILK?  We were skeptical, but Bacallao convinced us that it was tasty and possibly less carboniferous than cow's milk (we're checking that just for grins) and better for our age ravaged metabolisms (checking that TOO).  How do you milk an oat?  Gotta be harder than say, an almond... M ostly sunny skies this morning with +20 miles visibility.  Winds were all over the compass, but predominantly out of the WNW.  The sea surface was riled and getting rilier...  The air temperature was 53.3º and the water is 59.7º, but this wind might knock that down a bit.  High tide was at 8:05am +7.1' and low tide will be at 3:18pm -1.6'.  We have a west swell out of 274º at 4.6' and it was 5' to 7' and a bit wild, but certainly some possibilities for those wishing to give...

Y esterday marked the anniversary of the passing of our great friend and surfer Doug "Danger Boy" Ball (#1).  Scarcely a day goes by where his memory is not invoked or his feats recounted.  We remain honored having been graced by his presence and taught by his example...  "Danger Boy AWAAAY"... W ell, I SHOULD be beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but it seems like it's taking it's own sweet time getting us into the spirit.  In the meantime, we're looking at the forecast (#1) and thinking we might have another good run of surf mañana if the swell keeps steady and the winds stay off.  I t was chilly this morning with the air at 50º and the water at 59.9º.  Skies were partly cloudy and the occasional sun peeking through felt awfully good.  Winds were offshore by 4 to 5kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The ocean was slate gray and the breaking waves created numerous studies in gray and white, not to mention the wind manicured curls.  High tide was at 5:32am +5.7' and low tide follows at 12:11pm +0.6'.  On this first day of Hanukkah we have a WSW swell out of 248º at 3.3'.  It was 3' to 4' with some picturesque waves to dance through.  Hoping our luck holds through tomorrow!...
