Lost Boys & Co... Y our looking at this wave (#1) and you're thinking, "Wow, it must be pretty good!"  Well, you'd be wrong.  Lauri Armer went out and she caught two waves.  The first one closed out on her and on the second one she managed to make it to the bottom and straighten out before it closed out.  But it was a beautiful morning with 10 miles visibility under partly cloudy skies.  Winds were strong offshore between 5 and 10kts and the sea surface was textured.  The air temp was 56.3 º  and the water is 61.7 º .  High tide hits at 11:00am +4.6' and low tide will be at 5:23pm +0.3'.  The west swell is ready to kick in and currently it's 2.6' out of 273 º  west and 4' to 5' on the sand.  Let's hope this swell chews up the sand bars a bit... ✠   "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... S o, if your name is Jane Mermaid Miho, Jodi Foster Flicker, A-Aron Millstein or Big Daddy Brodhead, your 2026 custom calendar will be at Brothers ma ñana around 9:15.  M oon over Hermosa this morning (#1).  (Do you know how much time we spent trying to create an enlarged moon and then paste it on this shot of the pier?  Waaay too much!)  You can see that the skies were clear, except for that layer of dingy air out there.  Winds were offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 54.9º and the water is 61.7 º .  There has been much discussion about the water temperature this year, so we decided to check last year's stats.  Sure enough, last year at this time the water was 57.7 º  and got all the way down to 54.5 º  as we slipped into March.  So you know, we're quite happy with 61.7 º .  High tide was at 10:19am +5.4' and low tide will be at 4:55pm -0.3'.  Currently we have...

Too Many Bays Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... H ere (#1) we have the beautiful Hanauma Bay.  Over the years they've had to limit the number of folks they let in every day to preserve some of the integrity of the environment and it's hoped to let some of the coral that had been trampled by visitors grow back.  We saw it 50 years ago when it was still relatively unspoiled.  About 20 years ago it was probably at it's low point with vast deserts of rock and sand and little coral.  Since then they have gone all out to bring back coral and create an environment for some of the largest variety of sea life that you might see anywhere in the islands. I n and out of the foggies this morning with variable visibility, at times a hundred yards.  Wind were out of the north 2 to 4kts and the sea surface was passingly smooth.  The air temperature was 53.3º and the water was 61.9º.  High tide was at 9:40am +6.1' and low tide will be at 4:26pm -0.9'.  It's a west swell pout of 261 º ...

Sometimes SUP On Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... H ad to write today about Bruddah Miloe and his triumphant return to the water. S everal surgeries ago, including serious back surgery, he felt like his days in the water were numbered.  His balance was off, he had "drop foot" and like the rest of us geezers had trouble popping up.  But this week he put that all behind him and on several occasions has been stand up paddling.  Below are a couple of pics of him at Ala Moana slipping across the lagoon in great form.   I t's been fun hanging with him this week and especially fun seeing him do so well in the water! A loha! "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... R aining this morning in Ko'Olina, but yesterday was fabulous day with some SUP-ing in the south side of Pokai' Bay.  We were all set to do a bit of surf riding when the lifeguards start putting up these signs (#1).  We decided that if we were SUP-ing the sharks could only get our toesies.  Bruddah Miloe had a long session, exercising his feets and balance and looking good.  We all were so stoked we forgot to take his picture!  Maybe today… T he South Bay looks sunny with good visibility all the way to the smog line.  Winds were out of the east, calm to 4kts.  The sea surface has a bit of a bump.  The air was 56.0 º and the water is holding at 61.3 º.  High tide was at 6:42am +6.5' and low tide will follow at 2:09pm -1.6'.  There's a strong west swell out of 266 º at 4.3' and it's a thumping 3' to 5'.  Maybe a better chance at Topaz or the hill for mo' bettah shape… C oming back on Monday.  Hoping our cust...

Hula Girl…

Image
Lost Boys & Co... L ast night we were out on the lower west side of O'ahu having some dinner and listening to slack key.  This woman got up and started to Hula.  It was magical.  Like all of us, we've seen a lot of hula.  But this was spontaneous and lovely and just struck a chord. A loha! "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... G ood morning fine citizens everywhere.  Reporting this morning from the west side of O'ahu Where it's balmy and warm.  We're sitting on the lanai and this is our view to the west (#1).  A little surge in Miloe Bay, but not enough to bother the snorkeling.  Saw a couple of Black Trevaly yesterday that would have made an excellent dinner! The South Bay is looking sunny with 20+ miles visibility and clear skies.  Winds are out of the east by 1 to 4kts and the sea surface is smooth.  Maybe too smooth…. The air temperature is 61.5 and the water is 61.7.  The tide is low at 11:42am +0.0' and high tide will be at 6:35pm +2.7'.  It's a WSW swell out of 247 degrees at 2.0' and it's 1' to 2' for your shore pounding amusement. We captured this shot of Sappharua this morning (#2) to let you know we're on the lookout.  It could use more palm trees!  Swell is coming later this week to the islands and we've been hanging out of th...
