Gays Of Hormuz Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T ired of hearing about the Straights of Hormuz... C loudy, gray (#1) and on shore winds 3 to 7kts.  The sea surface is a bit tacked.  The air temperature is 58.0 º  and the water has risen to 60.1 º  in an heroic attempt to lure us back into the sea.  One low tide at 10:31am +1.0'.  It's a 2.3' west swell out of 270 º  and it's an inconsistent 2' to 3' on some of the new sand bars. Waiting For The Sun Monday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... S unday was absolutely crazy at the beach!  Some of the lifeguards were saying that the crowd was larger than the Fourth of July!  LoLa took this shot (#1) of Torrance Beach and it was like that down the beach all the way to the pier (which was even more crowded.) A  few clouds and 20 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore to 1kt.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 55.5 º  and the water is trying at 58.8 º .  One tide today, low at 8:37am +1.0'.  It's a 2.6' swell out of 271 º  west.  It was 2' and breaking precipitously close to shore.  So close that when the Professor exited the water his board got launched back and whacked his footy (#2).  Kinda looks like a burrito with toes. M eanwhile, south of the border down El Salvador way, Brendan (#3) was scoring some righteous rights!  Jealousy is permitted... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

No Extraterrestrials In The Lineup Friday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... N o extraterrestrials were seen in the lineup this morning.  There were two women, Doc and the Professor and that was it.  They did, however, leave this message (#1) on the Strand.  It was written in sand so it didn't last very long, but the intent is/was pretty clear. C lear skies and all that wind yesterday turned around and blew softly from the east at 1 to 3kts.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air was a chilly 49.9 º  and the water is 59.4 º .  Doc kept insisting it was colder, but maybe not.  High tide was at 10:42am +4.1' and low tide followed at 4:28pm +0.9'.  It's a west swell out of 273 º at 3.3' and it was 3' to almost 4' and got a little better during the rising tide and then began shutting down.  Like it does.  Look for that window mañana if the wind cooperates. F ound this note (#2) that said something like, "There are these old guys in Hermosa who can't see or hear.  Do not take off near th...

It's Even Windier Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... S o just about the time we walked out on the pier there was this gust of wind that tipped the KYHC anemometer (#1) at 39kts, which is 45mph!  It blew all of the fishermen off the pier (#2) and swept them down the beach to the harbor.  It did, however, create this marvelous Saharan landscape (#3) that is still smoothing things out. I t was 10 miles visibility through hazy blowing sand out of the north by 20 to almost 40kts.  The sea surface was windswept and blown out.  The air temp was 53.6 º  and the water is holding at 59.7 º .  High tide is at 10:03am +4.7' and low tide follows at 4:07pm +0.4'.  It's a west swell out of 274 º  at 4.6' and it's probably 4' to 6', but almost impossible to gauge with the wind... ✠   "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

It's The Real Thing Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... A ll things considered it's a pretty typical late winter's day here in Southern California.  Cloudy (#1) with 9 miles visibility and winds, light out of the east by 1 to 3kts.  The air temperature was 53.9 º  at checkout and the water is 59.9 º .  High tide was at 9:25am +5.3' and low tide will be at 3:48pm -0.3'.  We have a 3.0' west swell out of 267 º  and it was a mushy 3' to 4' and hard to get into.  Supposed to get windy tonight and tomorrow and maybe switch around on Friday... W e were going through some of the pics that we took of our trip to Idaho last week.  We realized that this shot of the Professor, besides showing his sloppy form, had no one else in the photo.  The entire run is empty!  In all honesty the snow wasn't that great, but Brundage Mountain is known for it's uncrowded slopes.  This was on the "Temptation" run after they had opened the main high speed chair to the crest.  Everyone jus...

Photo Finish Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... F rom Coach Avery... W e had a historic weekend at the NSSA State Championships at Seaside Reef. For the first time in school history, we had both a male (Dylan Morrisroe) and a female (London Meza) shortboarder advance to the individual finals. In addition, for only the second time in program history, Sheamus Swift made the individual finals in longboard.  As a team, we also earned our highest overall finish ever — with Varsity placing 4th overall and JV placing 3rd overall.  (#1) Owen and Nico showing off the team trophies. A pretty morning with 10 miles visibility under mostly clear skies.  Calm winds and a rolling sea surface.  The air temperature was 53.3 º  and the water is hovering around 59.5 º .  High tide was at 8:48am +5.8' and low tide was at 3:17pm -0.7'.  It's that persistent west swell out of 263 º at 3.9' and it was a bit bigger with outsides about ear high. S upposed to blow on Thursday and then turn aro...
