Lost Boys & Co... T hanks to all the folks who turned out for Annie's Birthday party this morning!  Special thanks to Dane DeLuca who provided the cake with the impressive and appropriate bicycle themed birthday decoration (#1 & #2), party favors (bubble blowing kits) and half-plates that made it look like you were having a reasonable amount of the extremely rich cake.  For those having trouble blowing bubbles, we suggest taking advice from Lauren Bacall in "To Have and Have Not"...  "You know how to (blow bubbles), don't you Steve?  You just put your lips together and blow." M eanwhile, yards away on the beach, the skies were clear and then clouded up and then sprinkled a bit!  Visibility to 10 miles.  Winds were offshore, according to the bubbles, and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 55.0 º  and the water is 63.7 º .  Low tide was at 7:30am -0....

S aturday past the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium had it's GRAND OPENING!  We got the deluxe tour from Jose Bacallao, who took us behind the scenes.  The standout new addition had to be the seven million dollar life support system!  It included, salinity, ph, temperature and a dozen more things to insure a perfect environment for the sea creatures in their care.  He suggested that if the Familia was interested he could do another tour for those who didn't make it to the opening!  If you're interested let's get together and schedule another trip to Cabrillo.  We could also check out the break there at the point!  A couple of our faves were the seahorses (#1) and the octopus (#2).  In all the places we've snorked, we've never seen a seahorse, but it was fun to see a live one close up.   M ostly sunny this morning with 15 miles visibility.  Winds were light offs...

Lost Boys & Co... O kay, who opened the door to Middle Earth?  Looks like Aragon, Thorin and Balin (#1).  Wait... Maybe it's Matt, the Professor and Kevin doing the time warp from Bishop Surf teams of the last century... S tart of the All Stars this morning at 38th St. El Porthole.  14 miles visibility under partly cloudy skies.  Winds were offshore 3 to 4kts and it was a chilly 53 º  and 62.6 º  in the water. High tide at 10:06am +4.4' and low tide follows at 3:32pm +0.9'.  It's SSW swell out of 209 º  at 3.0' and it was 3' to 4' with the tide mushing it out as the morning wound on.  Semis and finals next week... G rabbed this frame off of SurfLine (#1) of these two handsome chaps walking down to take a dip.  We cannot tell you how absolutely preposterous this is considering how much one of the participants dislikes any water cooler than 70 º .  Of course the fellow carrying the fins, on the left, is the famous aquanaut Jose Bacallao and he would jump in and frolic in 50 º  water.  They had a bit of body surfing and then retired to Brothers Burritos for the best B/Avocado ever made... C loudy skies and 16 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth with a wee bit of texture.  The air temp was 57.0 º  and the water is lurking around 62.5 º , although Bacallao's watch said it was 67 º we thought that might be a product of his hot wrist.  Our watch said 9:25...  High tide at 9:17am +4.7' and low tide follows at 3:00pm +0.5'....

W e were reading a comment on the recent Fish & Game Commission meeting and one of the comments was "WTF."  Having just glanced at the calendar we thought "Wednesday, Thursday Friday?"  What?  Recalls thinking "LOL" was "Lots of Love."  What... M eanwhile, there were some distant clouds on the horizontal and mostly clear skies above our pointy heads (#1).  Visibility 10 miles.  Winds were trying to be light onshore all morning and finally decide around 10am to actually blow.  Kinda looked a bit morning sick and bumped with an almost imperceptible red tint.  The air temperature was 55.0 º  and the water is 62.2 º .  High tide was at 8:33am +4.8' and low tide will be at 2:33pm +0.3'.  It's a 3.0' SSW swell out of 195 º  and it's hitting close to the beach at 3'.  Sheamus showed us that there were still some rideable bumps out there (#2). ...

H ey there surf fans!  A beautiful day with 10 miles visibility and pretty much clear skies.  Wind were offshore 2 to 5kts, changing about 10am.  The sea surface was smooth.  Air temperature at checkout was 53.8 º  and the water is 62.4 º .  High tide was at 7:48am +4.7' and things were breaking close to the sand (#1.) and low tide will be at 2:05pm +0.1'.  It's a SSW swell out of 201 º  at 3.9', dropping a bit throughout the day...  Y ou might have seen some of Martinelli's sand sculptures next to the pier on occasion.  We asked if this (#2) was a White or Mako and he said we'd have to make the distinction... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Good morning fine citizens!  Well, photo the first, pretty well describes the playing field this morning.  It’s cloudy and we have approximately 9 miles visibility.  Winds are out of the south 3 to 5kts and the sea surface has a bit of tack.  The air is 59.9 º and the water at the #46221 Santa Monica Buoy is 63.1 º.  One tide today for your surfing pleasure and it’s low at 12:02pm +0.3’.  We have a 3.3’ SSW swell out of 209 º and it’s 1’ to 2’ on the sand.  Need a little more west in the mix to give us some rideable surf… Back on Monday with the surf & culture.  Until then the Master’s is on if you like golf, the burritos and coffee are hot at Brothers and you can paddle to get ready for the Catalina Classic… "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!! ...

Lost Boys & Co… L ooking very spring-like out there this morning.  Cloudy with 9 miles visibility and winds predominantly from the north by 3 to 4kts.  The air temp is 63.1 º and the water is 63.5 º.   The sea surface has a light tack, but still mostly smooth.  Basically one tide today with the low at 11:05am +0.5’.  We have a west swell out of 278 º at 3.9’ and it’s 3’ to 4’ and trying to transition to the outside sand bars.  Look at Donnieland, Annaland & 11th St. proper for telltale signs… O kay, so what do we do when the surf sucks?  Some of us try to fix it, some go to coffee, some hit the gym and some go fishing.  Well if you fancy yourself an angler, advocate or concerned ocean user, we’ve found a perfect place for you to listen and stay informed on the environment we live, work and play in.  Anupa Asokan, has put together a podcast...

B ut out front this morning in the office, we’ve got partly cloudy skies with 8 miles visibility.  Winds are offshore by 3kts with a bit of south turn.  The sea surface is smooth.  The air temperature is 62.7 º and the water at the buoy is 62.6 º.  One low tide this morning at 9:39am +0.6’.  There’s a SSW swell out of 201 º at 3.3’ and it’s in the surf line at 2’ to 3’ and trying to find that inside sandbar. T his is the face the Professor made when Bruddah Miloe grabbed his leg under the table (#1).  But he only made it for a second… L ooking adorable out there as the hazy sun brightens up the landscape.  9 miles visibility with the air temperature at 59.0 º and the water is 61.9 º.  Check the lifeguard tower for the temps in the surfline as they may vary.  One low tide this morning at 7:08am +0.6’.  We’re going with the 7:08 time but our other tide source has it at 8:08am.  This is the first time there’s been a discrepancy, so pick your favorite time.  We have a rolling south swell out of 191 º at 3.9’.  We’re getting it at an oblique angle making it 2’ to 3’.  Looks fun!  Get it before the wind changes!   "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

L ost in the wilds of Idaho, we’re hoping you had a joyous Easter and ate all the chocolate rabbits that you found on your egg hunts.  We feasted on Aunt Mary’s Lima beans, which sounds meh, until you realize it’s Lima beans floating in butter soup.  We asked one of the kids how many Easter Bunnies there are and they responded “Millions.”  We thought about it for a minute and then thought that number must be increasing exponentially daily.  By next Easter the world should be covered by rabbits… H azy skies with 7 miles visibility.  Winds out of the south by 3kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air  temperature is 62.0 and the water is 62.4.  Low tide was at 7:01am +0.3’ and high tide will be at 1:27pm +2.5’ making a typical VW Bug sine wave.  It’s a SSW swell out of 205 degrees at 2.3’ and it’s a good day for a paddle! S o why are these women (#1) smiling?  Well, maybe it's because they just won the Women's Division of the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association!  They beat perennial champs Mira Costa 25 to 17, finishing 1-2-3 in the shortboard heat.  In the longboards, Milly Horstman continued her run of wins, but Redondo was deep enough to get the trophy.  From L to R:  Malea, Soryn, London, Abby, JuJu, Giselle, Remy, Edith, Clementine, Umi and Keani. T he morning started out hazy breaking into a sunny morning.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth. The air temp was 55.6 º  and the water felt warmer than the posted 62.4 º .  High tide was at 10:55am +4.0' and low tide follows at 4:18pm +1.2'.  It's a west swell out of 278 º  at 2.6', but it was hitting the beach at a consistent 3' to 4' with good shape.  Good enough so that the crew hit it before the tide swamped the playing field... W ell, this looks like yoga, but we're thinking they were praying for surf (#1).  You think their prayers might be answered?  Turns out that there's some spikes passing through and the wind's onshore at 9 to 12kts and kicking up some waves.  Currently the sea surface is choppy (#2), but if the wind calms it could get pretty good.  The air is a wind chilled 59.8 º  and the water is a more seasonal 62.2 º .  High tide is at 10:16am +4.5' and low tide will follow at 3:58pm +0.7'.  Currently we have a 3.6' west swell out of 259 º .  It's 3'+ and keep your fingers crossed for mañana... W e're hoping it's good so that the contest between 'Costa and Redondo can be held in some respectable surf.  Meet starts at 6:30am tomorrow and determines the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Assn. champ.  Some great prep surfing so if you can don't miss it! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
