Looking very spring-like out there this morning.  Cloudy with 9 miles visibility and winds predominantly from the north by 3 to 4kts.  The air temp is 63.1º and the water is 63.5º.  The sea surface has a light tack, but still mostly smooth.  Basically one tide today with the low at 11:05am +0.5’.  We have a west swell out of 278º at 3.9’ and it’s 3’ to 4’ and trying to transition to the outside sand bars.  Look at Donnieland, Annaland & 11th St. proper for telltale signs…

Okay, so what do we do when the surf sucks?  Some of us try to fix it, some go to coffee, some hit the gym and some go fishing.  Well if you fancy yourself an angler, advocate or concerned ocean user, we’ve found a perfect place for you to listen and stay informed on the environment we live, work and play in.  Anupa Asokan, has put together a podcast that helps us stay up to date on the latest issues the affect or ocean(s).  You can access it at “fishonair.riverside.com”.  You might think that as surfers we don’t have that much invested in the fishy world, that is until some yokel drags a shark through our office!  Then you’re asking, “Is that legal, should they cut the line, are they going to bite my toesies?”  This podcast opens up a whole kettle of fish and the issues that impact the sea we love.  Thank you Anupa!  So listen up!

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

The House Always Wins Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
