The last couple of days have been uber busy on the surf scene!  Yesterday the South Bay Scholastic Surf League had their All-Star finals and Redondo had an impressive 8 trophy winners (#1).  R. to L.:  Jackson Owens, Charlie Lentz, Parker Murphy, Dylan Morrisroe, London Meza, Edith Perez (our pier local), Sheamus Swift and Keani Honda-Snow.  You'll note Keani was a double winner with a first in longboards and a second in shortboards.  She surfed three heats in a row and still had plenty going in the last round!  

We'll say it, "The surf was firing again today!"  16 miles visibility under mostly sunny skies.  Winds were consistent offshore 3 to 5kts and the sea surface had a slight tack.  The air temp was 54.3º and the water is 61.3º.  Low tide was late at 11:16am -0.3' and high tide follows at 6:23pm +4.0'.  It was a 3.6' SSW swell out of 201º.  A consistent 4' there were some fatter outsides and it was classic Hermosa.

As well as competing in the All-Stars, Redondo held it's own version of "March Madness" where team members go mano-a-mano until there are two surfers left.  The final gets everyone out of the water (#2) to watch the battle.  And they weren't disappointed as Kai Thomas went head-to-head with Dylan Morrisroe.  Kai took an early lead catching four solid waves to Dylan's one.  But as he's done so many times, Dylan seemed to summon the waves he needed to charge into the win (#3).  A great contest that had the team on the beach cheering on both surfers...  Next week the girls will start there one-on one comps!

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

The House Always Wins Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
