  Lost Boys & Co... " T o SURF" is what the sign (#1) says...  What it doesn't say is that it's about a thousand miles away... A beautiful clear morning out on the Strand and along the hook of the bay (#2)...  37 fucking degrees (kinda hard to get outta the rack!), but the water is 61.0!  Honestly, it actually felt 61 degrees.  It was low tide at 9:41am +1.8' and high tide followed at 3:08pm +3.8'.  We had a 2.6' swell out of 270º true west and it was 2' to 3', with some nice rollers hitting the outside bar and then disappearing on the inside hole...  Stutzcanhang, got a couple of long noserides and Jah Morgan got tagged in the neck by an errant visitor...  Ice and Ibuprofen...   W here do Santa's elves hang out when it's cold outside?  It depends, but we found these two (#3) taking a break in the Tiki Bar... A t Christmas time one might have a tendency to look back at the year and muse about "all of the places and all of the faces" that we have traveled together.  This group in particular (#1), warms the cockles of our greasy little hearts...  Yes, warm and toasty in Nica... F un high tide waves this morning, under cloudy skies and offshore winds.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 51.9 and the water is holding at 62.1.  High tide was at 9:33am +6.8' and low tide will be at 4:48pm -1.4'.  We have a WSW swell out of 240º at 3.6', but it was fatter than that and we got some shoulder to head high rollers that ended up in a shorebreak that would challenge all the work your chiropractor did on you last week... A pparently all of these Himalayan salt lamps (#2) are from a "rare" vein in the Himalayan mountains.  Their advantages are too numerous to mention, but you can reap the benefits of negative ions, sleep more...

Y es, it's another Winter Solstice and expect things to rotate a bit at 2:23pm as we slip into winter and we have our shortest day of the year.  Sunrise was at 6:53am and sunset will be at 4:48pm, making for 9hrs 54mins 29secs of daylight.  So while the sun stalls over the Tropic of Capricorn for a tick, let's see what's happening in the surfline... W e have this photo of LoLa checking out Sapphire (#1) at high tide a couple of days ago.  It was cloudier this morning with about 7 miles visibility, but no threat of rain.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 53.3 and the water has gone up a smidgen to 62.1.  High tide was at 7:25am +6.6' and low tide follows at 2:34pm -1.1'.  You'd have thought the universe could sync low tide with the sun being at it's greatest tilt from the northern hemisphere, but apparently that's not the way it happens and there's an 11 minute discrepancy.  We...

H aving a cold at any time of year is no fun, but especially when the surf is good...  That's been a problem.  The Professor decided to take a selfie of his throat and then enlarged it (#1) leading a few folks to comment that he might have gotten the bug in El Salvador... T he hardest part of writing a report on the conditions is when you don't actually look at the surf...  But we have technology that allows us to be able to stay in our crib and report what's going on out there.  So there's not much wind and it looks like about 10 miles visibility.  The air temp was 50.2 and the water is miraculously still in the 60's at 61.9.  High tide was at 6:50am +6.3' and low tide follows at 1:55pm -0.6'.  The buoy is reporting a WSW swell out of 252º at 4.6' and we've confirmed with on-site chiropractor, Doc Scale, that it's 4' to 5'...  He says he might have a go at Sapphire later... S till pumping a bit this morning, an indicator might be the fact that no one can get out yet in Hermosa(#1).  The avenues on the other hand were full of gladiators trying to get a few corners before the swell drops... C lear skies and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore at 1kt and the sea surface was slightly rolled.  The air temperature was 51.5 and the water is 62.1.  High tide was at 5:44am +5.4' and low tide will be at 12:38pm +0.7'.  We have a west swell out of the west 267º at 9.2' and depending on your surf scouting abilities, it could be 4' to 10'... T he surf WAS big this morning.  Maybe not as big as advertised in some predictions, but still big enough.  We'll start with #1 to give you some perspective.  Zoom in on the middle of this pic and you'll see the lifeguard buoy on the inside of this cresting wave.  This is special because that buoy is about 150 yards out!  To say that this is unusual would be an understatement...  C loudy and a bit ominous this morning with no wind and 5 miles visibility.  The air temperature was 57.3 and the water is still advertised at 62.6.  High tide was early at 5:13am +5.0' and low tide will be at 11:58am +1.4'.  At 7:30am this morning the buoy was registering a 5.6' swell (that's been increasing hourly, at 3pm it was 8.5') out of 268º west.  But it looked quite a bit bigger than the swell height suggested.  We'll call it 8' to 10' and bigger depending on where you're standing... W e find it totally amazing that he word "phooey" didn't make it into the dictionary until 1929...  T here's a lot of this going around (#1).  Fortunately, the green part of it doesn't last that long.  Donnie got so sick all of his clothes exploded off of him, so he kinda looked like the Hulk.  He scared Oscar.  LoLa passed out 5 times and spent part of the evening admiring the design on Chinda's floor. The Professor (not pictured) avoided the obligatory emesis and instead camped out in the bathroom until the worst was over... M eanwhile, it was cloudy and cool this morning, with 5 miles visibility and 53.7º air.  The water is holding at 62.2.  Low tide was at 8:33am +3.1' and high tide follows at 1:18pm +3.8', so not a whole lot of difference in the tides today.  That all changes next week and Christmas week when we get some wild tidal differentiations.  We have a WSW swell out of 257º at 3.6' and we have no idea...

S ome good waves this morning and Frankie Volk (#1) was having a good time  on the north side of the pier.  Some folks gave him grief that he wasn't on the nose.  Well, we suggest that he was technically on the nose ( 3' from the tip), but wasn't hanging any toes.  Certainly a functional maneuver and in many cases generates more speed than actually being on the tip... T oday marks three years since Doug "Danger Boy" Ball rode his final wave into eternity.  In some ways and on some days, that seems like a lot.  At other times, it feels like it just happened and I expect to seem him round a corner or hear his voice.  An original Lost Boy and a personal friend who's companionship I will always treasure, I know that his family and the many friends he left behind think of him every day...  (#1 Danger Boy ready to head out...)   Lost Boys & Co... Here's one that almost made it all the way to the pier on Sunday (#1).  It looked a lot like this this morning, with some of the outsides moving quite a bit of water...   But it was cloudy this morning with about 5 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the NE by 3.0kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 53.3 and the water is 62.2.  High tide was at 9:58am +5.5' and low tide was at 12:58pm +0.2'.  There was a west swell out of 261º at 2.6' and despite the swell size it bumped to 3'' to 5' on the outside and there were some pretty fat jumpers about every 10 minutes... Tandis Morgan might be the best aunt ever.  Expecting a lot of nieces and nephews for the Christmas fireworks party on Sunday, she hung a sheet of craft paper down the length of her hallway.  The kids loved it and spent their time doodling and running up and down the hallway leaving streaks of color.  #2 is a detail and if you look closel...

Frank (#1)  Frankie Volk and the Professor at the "Meet the Shaper" event.  Frankie is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet!  Hellman on a motorcycle, great surfer and skateboarder! 10 miles visibility under cloudless skies and not much wind to speak of.  The air temp was 48.2 and the water is still 61.2, even after the wind.  High tide was at 8:25am +6.3' and low tide follows at 34pm -0.7'.  We have a west swell from 272º at 3.9' and it was 3' to 6' if you could find the right spot... 100+ years of surfing experience on the rail...  Capitán Donaldo and Bob Thomas (#2) check it out this morning on the pier.  The swell had some size left over from the recent storm, but it was a bit wild for most folks.  Of course this guy (#3) caught one early and made it all the way to the pier...  Then you had to paddle back out... R ain, hard at times, throughout the day.  Winds were predominately offshore, gusting to 10kts and the sea surface is a bit wind whipped, but not choppy.  The air temp was 53.3, but the wind has driven the wind chill down below that.  The water is 61.2 and expect it to take a dive as the front moves through.  High tide was at 7:54am +6.4' and low tide will follow at 2:58pm -0.7.  We have a shifting WNW swell out of 290º currently at 4.9'.  It's 3' to 6' depending on your location and there should be some waves in the 3' to 5' range mañana with favorable winds...  Check it out...   Lost Boys & Co... #1 is CA-CA!  Don't surf in ca-ca.  It will make you sick.  Stay at least ten feet away from ca-ca...  Wait...  Maybe farther, we're checking... I t doesn't matter how close you get to the ca-ca, because it's pretty flat (#2) and you're not going to go out today.  Unless you're Morgan and Christian...  Also it's raining...  But the wind is offshore and the sea surface is smooth to glassy.  The air is 55.6 and the water is 62.2.  We have a high tide at 7:24am +6.4' and low tide will be at 2:21pm -0.6'.  There's a west swell out of 269º at 2.6' and it's breaking right on the shore.  Now if you're the patient type, you could wait until noon or so and check it then to see if the lower tide and rising swell might help things out...  S'posed to rain mañana as well, but the swell is scheduled to jump a bit... Y ou wanna know what really can piss you off?  It's when we have an evening glass-off and the surf is flat.  Just like this afternoon (#1) with a few ripples from the offshore breeze... C old this morning at 46.7, with the water dropping another degree to 62.4.  10 miles visibility and hazy skies.  Winds were offshore by 5.1kts and stayed that way all day long.  High tide was at 6:51am +6.2' and low tide will be at 1:41pm -0.2'.  We have a pre-rain SSW swell out of 205º at 1.6', but that translated to flat...  It's supposed to pick up by the morning AND the offshores are scheduled to blow most of the day tomorrow.  Since we've had our initial downpour, we might be persuaded to brave the rain if the conditions warrant it...
