Lateral visibility is good, like 15 miles, but the sky is heavily overcast and looks like rain.  For once the weatherman might be right, but not until the pm.  Winds have been light on shore all morning, 2.3kts at checkout and the sea surface was rolling glassy.  The air temp was 55.7° and the water is 54.7° and still feels like a tall mojito.  High tide is at 5:11am +4.9' and low tide follows at 12:33pm -0.3'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 195° and miraculously, even though the swell direction is so steep, we still have a 3.6' swell.  Hermosa was bumped and out of sorts, but Sapphire and Topaz had waves in the 3' to 4' range.  Depending almost entirely on the wind, take a look at things for next few days.  The forecast is for good sized surf on Sunday, but look before you leap...

The Pheasant Pluckers tonight at Keegan's to get you ready for tomorrow's Hibernian festivities!  7 to 10pm and Keegan's is newly remodeled for your dining, dancing and drinking pleasure.  Meanwhile, Flashbak will be on the bandstand tomorrow from 3pm to 6pm to properly celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  Last year Keegan's had some passable corned beef and cabbage.  We're looking for more of the same this year...

We just got a wire that our trip to China☭ has been approved by the state department.  No. we're not kidding, we're going to China.  We have only the slightest of what to expect...  The best we can do is suggest that Monday will be the last day of the regular report and that it will resume sometime early in April.  Some questions: 
Are you going surfing?:  We will be checking it out and if the conditions allow, we will go.
Will you be looking for the Yangtze Bore?:  Who told you that?  That's a secret!  We plan to be on the Yangtze for 4 days.  If it's boring, we'll be on it!
Have you heard of the Three Gorges Dam?:  Three Gorgeous Damsels?  Wasn't that with Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell and Rita Hayworth?
How about the Terra Cotta Warriors?:  We didn't know Terra Cotta was in the finals.  They looked a little stiff in the warm-ups, but definitely a brick wall on defense.
Do you know any Chinese?  Maybe...  Does Pa-Pa-Ooh-Mao-Mao count?

Lost Boys & Co... F ound these cool sweatshirts (#1) at Spyder on the Plaza.  They show all of the cool South Bay surf spots and wave magnets.  We managed to get these cool women to show off the threads... H eavy overcast and not quite 7 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore by 2 to 4kts and the surface was generously textured.  The air was 58.5º and the water is 58.5º.  Overcast, windy and chilly, this isn't sounding great is it?  Low tide is at 11:46am +0.6' and high tide follows late at 6:44pm +4.3'.  It's a SSW swell out of 212º at 2.3' and that's about how big it was with a few fatter outsides. F or those of you who knew Brian Sullivan his funeral will be held at St. Lawrence Church at 1pm on Saturday.  Still can't quite believe he's gone... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Teach A Fish To Fly Friday Surf & Culture Report

Wouldn't it be nice to have some surf to report about?  The simple answer is "yes."  But, and it's a big BUT, we're going to forge ahead and give you the particulars anyway.  5 miles visibility and pretty hazy conditions although it looks like the sun is trying to melt the haze.  Winds were offshore by 1 to 3kts. and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 64.5º and the water is 65.8º.  High tide is at 10:14am +5.6' and low tide follows at 4:55pm +0.6' (Maybe good for a walk on the hard sand.  Don't step on a bee.  Been lots of them on the shallow sand.)  SSW swell out of 206º at 2.3' and it was half of that on the beach.  Just to whet your appetite we've included this shot of the Professor in Nicaragua at "Soupbowls", or "Chicken Soup", or "Noodles".  They were all lefts... Riding The Gulf Monday Surf & Culture Report

Out on the Gulf of Mexico riding some interesting three footers in Freeport.  So here we are with the Maharishi after riding the outside at the "Octagon" jetty.  South wind is blowing at 10kts and it's bit textured, but it was fun and a great workout!
