Lost Boys & Co... S ome yummy sashimi, ready on the plate at Asahi, Eagle Idaho.  Used to be that you'd have to be right on the water to get fresh fish.  These days, Idaho is a couple of hours from the beach...  Oh yeah, it was pretty damned good... M ore gray today, with about 5 miles visibility.  Winds are out of the SSW by 3.9kts, leaving a bit of tack on the surface.  The air temperature is 61.9° and the water is 64.2°.  Low tide is pulled back at 6:06am -0.4' and the high tide push is at 12:44pm +3.9'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 200° at 2.6'.  The waves are small and walled at 1' to 2'. P ortugal meets Spain in the World Cup today.  Since the US is out we're throwing our support behind the red and green.  We're heading out to Artesia, to watch at the Portuguese Hall.  With any luck we'll have some photos to share in the morning.  Let's hope the outcome favors the homeland! Y ahoo, ran the top 21 things to...

Prime Meridian Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... C elebrations abounded yesterday as the Portagees celebrated their annual festa de Hynes D.E.S..  Closer to home, the McGarry's celebrated Michael's graduation from Emerson University.  In a rare display of collar popping virtuosity we have, Paver, Steve Masmanian, Jim McGarry, The Professor, Metaphecius, Mikey, Johnnie Brodhead and Muscles Proaño.  Having been past-posted on the collar gambit, the Professor showed up in three and aced the competition. G ray, windy morning with 7 miles visibility under heavily overcast skies.  Even a bit of drizzle in the odd corner.  Winds were onshore from the start at 7.8kts, leaving the surface heavily tacked.  The air temperature is 62.3° and the water is 64.0°.  Low tide is at 5:34am -0.6' and high tide will be at 12:10pm +3.9'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 197° at 3.3' - but a lot of that is passing us by so we're calling it 1' to almost 3' and poor to sloppy shape. Y ikes!...

Lost Boys & Co... Y ou know how you're just buzzin' along and you see a sign and you really don't read the fine print and you just go into the office at the school and you just straight away ask what kinds of free drugs, alcohol, tobacco and weapons they have.  Because deep down you're thinking, "This is too good to be true," but on the other hand you're also thinking that it would be cool to have a shot of tequila, while smoking a Cuban and blasting away on some targets with blazing Colts.  You'd just get a couple of aspirins for later - you know - all the noise and whatever.  So we weren't that surprised when the school secretary explained it to us...  Okay, just a little disappointed... S urf came up this morning despite the high-ish tide.  10 miles visibility under partly cloudy skies, with some nice patches of sun on the water.  Winds were light on all morning around 2 to 5kts with a light tack on the water.  The air temp was 60.1° and t...

Thersites Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... I t's pretty flat in this part of Idaho, so people take any advantage they can get in reaching altitude.  You might recall the first iteration of this instrument of mirth and reverse peristalsis, known to most baby-boomers as the "hammer."  Two bullet shaped vehicles that swung in opposition to each other, swinging higher and higher until they did twin loops.  You had to rely on centrifugal force to keep any emissions glued to the floor/ceiling until it stopped it's wild pendulum swing.  Our recollection is that Dale Rush threw up a candy apple that could have been reassembled in less than 5 parts...    G ray morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies mid-day.  12 miles visibility and plenty of marine haze.  Winds were calm to light onshore early at 1.9kts and the sea surface was lightly chopped.  The air temp was 60.3° at checkout and the water was 64.2°.  High tide was at 9:49am +3.7' and low tide followed at 2:0...

Fistulus Withers Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... Y ep, you gotta like the way they do some things in Idaho.  Like the way they put the kids in these big bubbles and let them play in the water without getting wet.  No muss, no fuss and no water born bacteria to cause those fistulous withers we were talking about.  After a while the kids just run out of air and kinda collapse on their own.  Sort of automatic shrink wrapping.  In a way it's funny - here we've been telling them not to put plastic over their heads and now we're escorting them into an entire bubble! D on't forget July 4th at the Professor's!  5pm until the Tiki torches light and the fireworks begin at the beach!  Lots of Linguiça, drink and good company!  Your chance to be Portuguese for a few hours...  Be there or be northern European! S o all of that swell swell activity we've been having has been dying down.  The morning started out overcast and gray, with 10miles visibility.  Winds were pretty...

Cherry Festival Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... L ast Saturday found us at the annual Cherry Festival in Emmet, Idaho .  We were a bit surprised (heaven knows why?) to be reminded of the San Joaquin Valley.  Take for instance the totemic water tower in the middle of town.  All it needed was "Pixley" on it.  A local fellow, who had already had his fair share of cherry cordial, caught the Professor taking this photo and asked him if he knew how long the water tower had been there.  The Professor studied the tower for a moment and said in his best Tulare drawl, "Reckon it's been there as long as people been thirsty."  The guy slapped his knee (literally) and said, "That's a damned good answer!"  Yeah, he didn't know either... B ack here in civilization, it's overcast with 7 miles visibility.  Winds are already lightly onshore by 2.7kts and the sea surface is lightly tacked.  The air temperature is 60.5° and the water is 63.1°.  High tide is at 8:00am straight up +...

Filing the Bars Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... H ow come Donnie Souther always looks so determined?  Maybe it's the vino?  On the other hand Monette and Ross look like they're having a great time... O vercast this morning, trying desperately to clear.  10 miles visibility, with a bit of the marine haze.  Winds turned onshore early blowing 3.7kts about 9am and freshening to a full 12kts by noon.  The sea surface is tacked to light white caps.  The air temp was 60.1° at checkout and the water is 65.8° and finally feels like it.  Low tide at 8:50am +0.3' and high tide will follow at 3:"49pm +4.9'.  The buoy is reading a 3.9' swell out of 256° WSW and we're calling it 3' with fair shape... N ext report on Tuesday.  We'll be headed for a long weekend to Boise.  We hear that the Cherry Festival in Emmit is not to be missed.  They tell us that, even though we understand that the cherry crop is late this year and there might not be enough cherries for everyone to ...
