Lost Boys & Co... H ere's Jetski on this chest high growler getting ready to fling hisself through this little tube.  He's on the "Sublime" model upping his performance by degrees... B ig windy last night!  Even though it's calm this morning with no wind, the ocean surface still has a bit of residual bump.  Hazy sun and 10 miles visibility with some chilly air at 55.9º.  Water is down again to 57.0, with the wind bumping it down.  Just when you thought it was getting warmer...  Low tide was at 8:51am +0.5' and high tide will follow at 4:19pm +3.2'.  We have a healthy west wind-swell out of 269º at 7.2' and it's 6' to 8', but dropping pretty quickly.  Should be half that tomorrow... W e were talking about the travertine deposits and the flowing falls they create.  These three shots are from a spot near Roberto Barrios (that's a village, not a person.)  #1 is the main falls and it's cascade of lace-like water that's over 50...

S o, we're nothing if we're not into sustainability.  We got this Monterrey Pine from Danger Boy and plan to raise it to adulthood, harvest it and make a surfboard from the planks.  Obviously, this is a long term project...  Because it was from Danger Boy we have taken to calling it the Douglas "Fir" Ball...  Your emphasis will determine whether that's "Douglas Fir" or "Fur Ball." H onestly, surgery in Mexico isn't always this primitive...  When Morgan Sliff went out at the point in Cardon, Mexico to make good on day 279, she had no idea that she'd take a punishing wipeout, break her leash and then cut her toe on the reef on the way back in.  Would she have gone out anyway?  OF COURSE!  And besides, how primitive can it be if they're using a smart phone for a light?  Speaking of smart phones or cell service in general, you can call from Mexico or El Salvador and call anywhere in the U.S. with crystal clarity.  But if you live in the Hollywood Riviera the reception sucks!  And god forbid you should try to call P.V.... A fter all that wind yesterday, things calmed down quite a bit.  We had 10 miles visibility with a few high clouds and the wind switched around to the east by 6.3kts.  The sea surface was smooth with only a slight roll from yesterday.  The air was a chilly 49.9 and the water drop...

W ith all that wind, the surf was kicked up quite a bit.  #1 broke out about 50 yards  beyond the end of the jetty.  You could have ridden it either way, but from our perspective the right looked a little better... B lowin' like a son-of-a-gun all day long.  Starting at around 10kts this morning and hitting upwards of 30 this afternoon.  Hazy sun with less than 10 miles visibility.  The air temperature was 56.9 and the water was 59.5 despite the wind.  Low tide was at 6:04am +0.4' and high tide was at 12:27pm +3.4'.  We have a west swell out of 264º at 10.2' and it was 10' to 12' with some mackers on the outer sand bars.  It'll be interesting to see what it looks like in the morning as it calms down a bit...  We're actually imagining Wednesday might be the best... Lost Boys & Co...   I n China where they were uncovering the terracotta warriors, they decided to stop because when the figures are brought to the surface, their polychrome finish oxidizes and they become the flat gray we've come to recognize.  It's a bit the same at Palenque.  They've become hesitant to uncover things too quickly since they run into the same issues of oxidation and decomposition.  All of the buildings were thought to have been covered in painted stucco, but the jungle and heat takes it's toll on everything but the basic stone... A nother summer-like morning in the So. Bay with only a few high clouds to mar the blue sky and 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 62.7 and the water was 61.3, getting up to almost 65 mid-day.  High tide was at 9:17am +4.4' and low tide will be at 3:06pm +0.8'.  We have a 3.0' swell out of 238º SW and it was a fun...

W e're back in town after a day at the 'bu...  Jetski is shown here letting his desires take wing...  Hot and small the 'bu still held sway with some long lines and only a few folks in the water.  One wag was heard to comment that it was the most polite crowd he'd seen in ages...  We had to agree... T here's an absolutely fabulous museum near the entrance to Palenque.  It houses some of the artifacts that wouldn't fair so well in the elements.  Many of these treasures are made of ceramic like this stele (#1) that features an exquisitely rendered portrait of a nobleman.  Erik Von Daniken suggested that these renderings were inspired by extraterrestrials who had a hand in building Palenque and that the elaborate headdresses are really space helmets...  Might be kind of a chore to get them into the saucer...
