Big Picture Surf & Culture Report...

Image
Lost Boys & Co... S o, it's Friday and we'll be headed over to Samba and let the sun slides into the Pacific...  This sunset (#1) at Sunset Beach features a nice little peak at Val's Reef right out in front.  When it was macking on the outside one afternoon we surfed this peak with a bunch of kids who were riding right over the rocks on the inside!  The water can be so clear that it looks like your a couple of inches above the reef...  In reality you're about 6 inches...  Not that much better huh... #2 is our best shot at a postcard.  "The weather is here, wish you were beautiful..." H azy sun this morning and 15 miles visibility.  Winds were soft out of the NW at 2.3kts and it was smooth.  The air temp was 64.9 and the water is a nice 68.2.  Low tide was at 9:46am +1.3' and high tide follows at 4:50pm +4.7'.  That south swell you've heard so much about is grazing Hermosa from 181ยบ south at 3.9' and it was a solid 3' with some...

A Little More Off The Side Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... W e love technology!  Marco was getting his haircut and Raquel decided she'd InstaGram the event.  Little did she know that the Professor would be cruising the net and jump into the stream.  So here we have Marco plying his buddy and favorite barber (#1) with wine to lubricate the proceedings...  Results to come... 10 miles visibility and a few clouds bumping along the troposphere.  Winds were out of the SW by 4.9kts and they rapidly accelerated until we're actually seeing a few whitecaps.  The air temp at checkout was 62.3 and the water is a nice 68.5.  Low tide is at 8:57am +1.0' and high tide follows at 4:07pm +4.3'.  We're still waiting on that big south swell, but right now we have a 2.6' SSW swell out of 207ยบ and it's still 1' and poor at most spots... L ook at this face!  Look at those pearly whites! (#2)  Yes, this is Chuck's grandson Anderson.  Anderson is now the Haifly holder of the record fo...

Tender Is The Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... I t's always a treat to see the Miloe's when we go to Oahu (#1 Barbara, LoLa, Uncle Chris & Buck.)  Uncle Chris kept us in plenty of waves, in fact sometimes they were a little intimidating for us.  This day at Barber's Point it was good size, but a tad windy.  We finally scored later in the trip when we hit it early before the wind came up and got some long rights... (photo credit:  Barry Santos for Rubber Coated Tables Monthly ) T en miles visibility this morning under overcast/clearing skies.  Winds were light out of the SW by 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 64.2 and the water is 67.8 at the buoy.  Low tide was at 7:32am +0.3' and high tide will be at 2:32pm 3.9'.  There's a SSW swell out of 206ยบ at 2.3' and it's double over-toe at most spots.  Supposed to get hot as the week progresses and a south swell is on the way...  Be ready for both... Sometimes A Serious Monday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... I usually try to keep the S & C Report on the lighter side, but while we were on vacation we got some absolutely horrific news.  Our friend, fellow coach and surfing buddy Duncan Avery's daughter Kalea began having headaches and was diagnosed with medullablastoma.  She was scheduled for surgery when Duncan and his wife Nohea, began noticing that their son Noah was walking oddly.  They took him to the doctors and unbelievably, the doctors discovered a mass in almost the same place as that of his sister and of the same type of cancer.  Environment, genetics, virus... does it make any difference?  One child would be devastating, but two are inconceivable!  But if you know Duncan and Nohea, they are in for the fight.  Two more dedicated, caring and tireless parents are not to be found.  But there is hope!  Both the children have now been operated on and had the masses removed.  The doctors are confident that ...
