Lost Boys & Co... I n photo #1 we have the three basic decisions about taking off.  From right to left:  1. forget it, duck dive and see what's behind this one.  2. Turn and burn or dive this one (looks like he's going to dive.)  3. On the corner and it looks like it has possibilities... R ain for most of the day, limiting visibility at times to less than 300yds.  Winds were fluky offshore at times to 15kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 50.0 and the water is 61.0.  Low tide was at 10:25am +1.9' and high tide will be at 3:49pm +2.9'.  We had a west swell out of 265ยบ at 3.9' and it was 3' to 5' depending on your location... H ere (#2) we have Lieutenant J. Sensei-Joey of the 344th Drone Urban Ursine Assault Division.  Wearing the traditional bear-skin hoody, cape, and corduroy trousers.  Originated on the steppes of Kansas, this elite force has recently been flown to the coast to monitor contraband com...

Lost Boys & Co... L a Hora de Fiesta will be at El Torito on the Redondo Beach Pier.  The evening will begin promptly at 5:30pm with an invocation by the Superintendent of the Vector Control District, Southern Area #14.  His remarks will address the gravity of puddle removal, anticipating the forecasted storm systems approaching Southern Area #14... T his morning we had a confused but enthusiastic Sruf Familia...  Visibility was 5 miles and skies were cloudy.  Winds were offshore by 2.2kts and the sea surface was smooth. The air temp was 52.3 and the water is holding on or near 60.4.  Low tide was at 5:53am +2.6' and high tide followed quickly at 11:32am +4.3'.  We have a WSW swell out of 244ยบ at 4.3' and it was 3' to 5' at most spots...  Rain is forecast for the morning, but the runoff has been clear, so there shouldn't be too much detritus in the lineup... A n avid indoorsman, the Professor is shown here (in #'s 1 & 2) in the company o...

A Big News Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... T he big news is, of course, that Josรฉ Barahona is now the owner of the Hap Jacobs logo and shaping enterprise! Here (#1) the two of them shake on the deal.  We can't imagine a better shaper or human being for that matter to take over, what might be the most iconic brand of surfboards, in the world.  #2 Describes things in his own words, but remember Josรฉ is way too humble... C loudy today and if you blinked you might imagine it could rain on your newly washed car.  7 miles visibility and winds were onshore by 2.3kts and the sea surface was slightly bumped.  The air temp was 51.5 and the water is 60.8.  High tide was at 10:51am +4.8' and low tide follows at 6:10pm +0.3'.  We have a west swell out of 265ยบ at 6.9' and it was 4' to 7' at most accessible spots... T hen there's this little gem (#3) of a left... We're thinking it's a Photoshop mashup for several reasons...  1.  If he was towed in there would have been a wake...

Lost Boys & Co... T he swell has been picking up all morning.  At 7:30 it was 5.9', 9am it was 7'2", 10:30am it was 8'9" and at 11am it was 9.8'.  We stopped a little south of Avenue I to watch this wave (#'s 1 & 2) come surging through.  A good 10' to 12' face, it spit a little like Pipe or Puerto and then closed out inside...  The hill was going crazy... H azy winter sun and 10 miles visibility with light offshores at 2.1kts, turning early.  The sea surface was smooth and the air temperature was 48.6.  The sea temperature is holding steady at 60.8 and hasn't seemed to be affected by the series of fronts that have come through.  High tide at 10:16am +5.2' and low tide will be at 5:35pm -0.1'.  At checkout/go-out it was 5.9' coming out of the west 262ยบ and it was 4' to 10' at that time...  Tomorrow promises to feature some searching for spots that will: A. Hold the swell and B. Have some shape... A nice shot of Ja...

Lost Boys & Co... A ttachment #1 mirrors our sentiments to an alarming degree... P artly cloudy this morning with 10 miles visibility and a lot more sun than yesterday.  That's why it doesn't feel like it's freezing!  The offshore wind has backed off a bit to 3.3kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temperature is 49.2 and the water is 60.4.  High tide was at 9:48am +5.6' and low tide will be at 5:01pm -0.3'.  We have a building WSW swell out of 250ยบ at 4.9' and it was 4' to 6' at most spots...  Supposed to be bigger maรฑana... N ot sure, but it looks like Trevor LaShure at Burnout (#2).  It seems like the Burnout peak has migrated a bit toward Avenue I.  Tomorrow might be a good day to take a look and see who's charging... H ere's a shot of our friend Hugo Vau (#3) who just paddled into this monster.  Yes, he PADDLED into it!  The guy on the jet ski is merely monitoring his progress...  This is the start of the big ...

Lost Boys & Co... F or all you fans of the rain, you should be extremely happy today.  In fact, the forecast suggests that you're going to have periods of giddiness, with chuckles and snickers thrown in, with occasional snorts (Jah Morgan)...  Of course there are always those (#1) who'd rather look for rainbows...  C loudy all day with rain and drizzles.  Visibility around 3 miles.  Winds were fierce offshore, to 15kts, reducing the advertised air temperature from 51, to somewhere in the 40's.  The sea surface was smoothed out and lightly textured and the water temperature is 60.6, despite the wind.  High tide was at 9:11am +5.8' and low tide will be at 4:30pm -0.6', so you can get a few clams before the sun sets at 4:59pm.  We have a strong west swell out of 265ยบ at 5.9' and we're calling it 4' to 7' and if you're willing to brave the cold and compromised water quality you could get some good ones! A couple of our favorite spots were ...
