Lost Boys & Co... #1)  This is the bay into the Cape of Good Hope.  It was a typical day with winds gusting to 30kts and surf at about 10' to 15'.  It's about an hour's drive out of Cape Town, made more exciting by having to drive on the wrong side of the road.  To our credit we only had one flat (from a failed parallel parking attempt) and whacked a mirror, which we pushed back into place.  Right turns were an adventure in themselves and our "Navagatrix" Ms. Suzanne made sure we got to all of our destinations on time...  Cold and gray this morning and looked like it might try to rain.  Winds were light and the swell was out of the West (281º) at 4.3'.  Low tide was at 5:07am -0.5' and it was better earlier and when the tide began to push it started to fail.  The real problem seems to be the water quality.  It's not just red tide or an algae bloom, but seems to have a shit component that's getting into peoples sinuses and causing col...

Lost Boys & Co... Okay, we're back and we're still trying to adjust from the flight from Durban, South Africa to Los Angeles.  Hell, it was only a days ride, well actually 25 hours, but it was worth it... We stayed at a great spot at the base of Table Mountain (#1) and LoLa, Suzi, Joey and Cat weren't happy until they climbed the difficult South Face.  For Pete's sake there's a CABLE CAR!  When the fog rolls over the table the locals say the "table cloth is on." The surf in the south bay was looking great this morning at 3' to 4' with some bigger sets on the outside.  High tide was at 10:06am +4.1' and it peaked the lined up swell into some longboard friendly rollers.  Wind stayed relatively calm, but the red tide made a bit of a comeback and was marginally dirty... Of all creatures South Africa is home to the African Penguin (#2 & #3).  Absolutely fearless the little guys run all over this headland and sometimes end up warming up under...

B lowing like crazy this morning (#'s 2 & 3) and any chance for a surf is going to have to be somewhere protected from the brutal north wind, unlike this spot (#1) in Okinawa which seems to be pretty deluxe for surf bathing! J ust a note for all you travelers out there.  We spent $150 on rapid Covid testing and it wasn't as rapid as advertised and we spent some time this morning running around with our hair on fire trying to get our results.  They finally came through, but not without calling customer service, shooting several bots and climbing up the chain of command.  Just wish Covid would go away! S o, in case you were wondering, it was Takayama who came up with the tear-drop concave on the Nuuhiwa Noserider.  Takayama, Nuuhiwa and Mike Eaton shaped the first few and then Eaton and Dan Bendicksen were the production shapers during it's initial run.  How do we know this?  At Sonny Vardemann's 85th Birthday Party we made sure we sat next to Bing (Copeland) (#1) and asked him some of these pressing questions.  We also didn't realize that Bing and Sonny, Greg Noll and all those guys who charged the big waves started out in 1955 at Waikiki enjoying the fun surf and warm water.  It wasn't until later that they ventured to the North Shore and scared the shit out of all the rest of us who came along later... Lost Boys & Co... L ots to cover today, so let's have Steve "Indiana" Jones (#1) lead us in to the box canyon of this report!  Yes, this way... M iller-Miller and the Wilder Burnsy were ripping it up this morning as the day dawned warm at 64.5º near sunrise and the water was 61.0º.  Burnsy barebacked it at Bruce's Beach yesterday evening!  Cloudless skies and hazy hot sun with the only tide today being a low at 10:50am +0.7'.  We have a southwest swell out of 230º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' with some little sneakers.  Case in point Miller-Miller (#2) was doing these nice little backside check-turns and ricocheting into the whitewater inside.  Meanwhile Burnsy (#3) was coiling up for the attack on these sneakers.  She was making them stretch about twice as long as usual... Lost Boys & Co... R edondo went head to head with El Segundo in a dual meet surf competition this morning and came out on top 86 to 58!  Pictured are the RUHS Women's Longboard team (#1) with Riley Friedman (5th place), Bekkah Assad (2nd), and Bridget Swift (1st).  Often in a close contest the women are the deciding factor in the results.  These guys hung tough in some difficult conditions! C loudy and gray for the contest with about 5 miles visibility.  Winds were variable onshore 4 to 7kts and bumped up the playing field.  The air temp was 56.5º and the water is 59.9º.  Rising tide throughout the morning with high at 10:09am +5.0' and low tide at 4:10pm +0.2'.  There was a 3.3' west swell out of 265º and it was 4' to 5' waves with some bigger outsides.  Just when you thought you might be in the right spot a macker would clean up the area and wash you south.  Some great waves... at a price! Lost Boys & Co... #1)  F ar right we have A-Aron telling the crew that it's dangerous out there, well YEAH!  It took 5 stitches (#2) to close the gap in his eyebrow after a collision with the rail of his board.  AND you should see the board!  He'll heal, but the board is going to need significant repair...  We're thinking a butterfly bandage would have left a more pleasing scar... G ray and cloudy this morning with seven and three quarters of a mile visibility.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 56.0º and the water is trying at 59.2º.  What's a .8 to anyone anyway?  High tide will be at 9:30am +5.3' and low tide follows at 3:43pm -0.3'.  There was a 3.6' swell out of west 265º with a full tide rolling 4' to 5' with some fat outsides.  Looked like fun until A-Aron almost lost an eye...
