How does she do that? (#1)  She just hovers and flies around at will.  She's going to be a great basketball or volleyball player.  She, Rylee, is trying to get Scarlett off the ground.  We wanna do that...

Yeah it's fall and it was 52.9º this morning as we headed to the beach.  The water today was 74.3º at the buoy so the answer is "YES" we made it to November with the water temperature in the 70's!  Clear skies and offshore winds in the 3 to 5kt range.  The sea surface was lightly brushed.  Easy to get to the buoy for a paddle but some work against the wind.  Low tide was at 9:58am +2.8' and high tide will be at 3:30pm +4.9'.  It's a SSW swell out of 204º at 4.3' and it was 3' to 4' pretty close to the sand... 

Paul Roustan threw a great Halloween party at the VEFA Gallery on Friday night.  We managed to get a rogues gallery of the Familia with Sara, Monica, Yoshi, LoLa, Burnsy, Toph, Doc and Nate as the Dude.  Skaters, body painting and some rather scary otherworldly types made the scene.  This lovely lady (#3) defied you to look into her eyes.  We averted our gaze...

Lost Boys & Co... I t's one of those mornings when the photo (#1) looks better than the actual surf.  Really, it's gray and about 7 miles visibility under that low overcast.  Winds are light offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º  and the water is 61.9 º  at the buoy, but they're calling it 66 º  on the lifeguard chalkboard.  High tide was at 8:24am +4.0' and low tide follows at 1:42pm +1.1'.  It's a SW swell out of 222 º  at 3.0'.  It's a solid 3'+ but it's smacking the sand with a real snap.  A few more degrees and this would be a good boogie/whomping morning...  T his Saturday is the closing party for the latest VEFA show "Monumental" which showcases the sculptural works of Andy Scott.  6 to 8pm at the gallery on 16th.  On display are sketches, maquettes and a large scale steel equine artwork (#2)... ✠ ...

The House Always Wins Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Thorium Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... O ur photo today explains a lot.  This is the house in which Boomfwappa and the Professor resided in from 1955 to 1960.  256 North H St., Tulare, California (in those days there were no Zips, area codes or private telephone lines!)  The thing we noticed right off, is that the hitching post that used to be in the front of the house had been removed.  Probably by some antique collector.  When the guys lived there, the house was already over a hundred years old, so it's around a hundred and fifty by now.  It was made out of redwood and had 12' ceilings and a great root cellar.  In the summer they had a swamp cooler for some relief from the Valley heat.  Sully convinced us to get a photo before the place disappears along with the hitching post! W e woke up to clear skies and offshore winds!  Kinda surprising, given the forecast.  Visibility was 20 miles, with a bit of haze.  Winds were light to moderate at 3.9kts ...
