It’s Thursday Already Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We had some standouts in the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association's "Kickoff Classic."  Especially the Familia's own Milly Hostman (#1) who got 1st place in the Women's Longboard Division.  Coach Avery sent this out:

"After seven days of competition over nine weeks, we had the finals of the Kick-Off Classic in challenging, waist-to-chest-high waves.  We had an amazing contest, with many athletes reaching the event's finals.  Below are the highlights:

Congrats to freshman Milly Horstman for winning the Women's Longboard Division!

In Men's shortboard, Dylan Morrisroe lost in a heartbreaker with 30 seconds left to secure 2nd place out of 160 athletes.  Devon Russell had an amazing contest taking 4th overall.

In Men's Longboard, Coco Buffagni had his best contest as a Sea Hawk finishing 3rd overall, and Dylan Morrisroe finished in 6th.

In Women's Shortboard, Abby Bosse also had her best finish, finishing in 3rd place out of 51 total athletes.

Other standouts:
Men's Quarterfinals:
Soren Roed 1st Place, 6th in Semifinals
Jake Kislinger 3rd Place, 4th in Semifinals
Charlie Lentz 3rd Place, 5th in Semifinals"

On the beach at Hermosa we had clear skies with 20miles visibility.  The sea surface was bumped with light winds out of the west.  The air temp was 47.3º and the water is 59.2º.  Low tide was early at 6:55am +3.4' and high tide followed at 12:38pm +4.8'.  It's a WSW swell out of 250º at 2.6' and it was a lumpy 3' requiring no small amount of patience to make things work...

Class is out at 8:15am mañana and all next week for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Let's see if there are some waves for which we should be thankful!
