No Burnsy does not really have a big mustache.  She's using one of those blonde ends to be one of the guys.  Looks good though...

The big news in the water this morning was the drop in temperature.  It was 63.0º in the air and a chilly 64.6º in the water.  Rogue current?  Up-welling?  We have no idea, but it felt like a 4/3 might be a sane option.  To top it off the wind was blowing a stiff 3 to 6kts adding a bit of wind chill to the proceedings.  High tide was late at 11:31am +3.8' and low tide follows at 3:48pm +2.3'.  It's a WSW swell out of 250º at 3.0' and it was a solid 3' to 4'.  Jah Morgan and Doc put on quite a show, grabbing some nice outside wedges. 

Heading to the South Bay Dozen at Torrance Beach in the morning.  Some Olympic caliber athletes showing off their skills.  Goes all morning and into the afternoon!

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Cavalcade Of Champions Monday Surf & Culture Report

L et's start out with our own Tom Welch (#1) who got 4th Place in the Hermosa Triathlon this last Sunday at the Hermosa Pier.  While the rest of us were trying to find parking, Tom was biking, swimming and running and doing it better than all but three of his fellow competitors.  Congrats to Tom and we imagine next year will find him on top of the podium... H azy sun and barely 6 miles visibility this morning.  Winds wee light onshore, 1 to 2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 65.7º and the water has jumped to a fine 70.2º.  Low tide was at 7:11am +2.5' and high tide will be at 3:11pm +4.7'.  It's a SSW swell out of 207º at 2.3' and it was 1' to 2' and perfect for today's start of the Galactic Small Wave Championships. Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
