Technicolor Thursday Surf & Culture Report
Lost Boys & Co...
So here (#1) we have a frame grab from a 1970 8mm film of Tim Larking shredding Topaz St. We were testing our first garage shaped shortboards and Tim's tended to be more spear-like than most. Later folks would be riding surprisingly similar shapes to surf Pipeline. The Professor leaned toward shorter fatter vehicles, but face it, when you're 20 anything works!
Clear skies and 15 miles visibility.. Winds were moderate out of the south ruffling things a bit. The air temp was 59.0º at checkout and the water is 63.7º. High tide was at 11:00am +3.7' and low tide follows at 3:08pm +2.5'. Buoy #46221 showed a WSW swell out of 252º at 3.0' and it was 3' to 3.5' and a bit ragged.
Reminding you that Saturday is the South Bay Dozen (#2) dodecathon featuring dory racing, run, swim, paddle and surf ski competitions. They still need volunteers to assist, so If you're free on Saturday come on down to Torrance Beach and check in with Mike Murphy and get an assignment. Volunteers should be there by 7:30. If you're just in the mood to watch, comps start at 8am.
