Dolphin Gala Makes Waves Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Under deliciously blue skies and offshore winds, the dolphins came as close to the beach as they ever do.   We were paddling around the swim-tower-buoy and met half a pod coming directly at us.  We had been distracted watching the first half of the pod swim by and when we turned there they were.  The photo came from Sapphire where LoLa watched them as they came within a couple of yards of the dry sand.  Old Sapphire guards will tell you that the dolphins and whales love to come in close there and scrape off any barnacles or detritus that has attached itself to them.

The air temp was 61.9º and the water at the inshore swim buoy was 73.5º.  Low tide started off the morning at 6:12am +2.4' and high tide follows at 1:11pm +4.8'.  It's a more oblique south swell out of 190º at 2.3'.  It was an ankle biting 1' to 2' and perfect for the swimming crew...
