Talk about cops on vice!  They were down in force this morning in Hermosa looking for a possible kidnapping/trafficking/slavery victim.  Where did all this go down?  They were checking out Baja Sharkeys to see if anyone remembered anything.  Who has ever remembered anything after a night at Sharkeys?  Consensus was that she wasn't Shanghaied, but left without telling her friends.  Simplest answer is usually the best…

Overcast with 7 miles visibility.  Winds were wild offshore then shifted from the south stirring up some wil's surface chop.  The air was 66º and the water was 67.8º and that's being generous.  Low tide was at 7:29am +1.9' and high tide follows at 2:28pm +5.5'.  It was a SSW swell out of 205º at 4.3' and it was 2' to 3' and wild and smashing.

We put our best man on the Shanghai caper.  Yeah, that's Detective Miller out of the King Harbor station.  No relation to Barney Miller… Chill glasses provided by Vishnevsky Optics, jacket by Rags for Men…. Always chill your glasses…

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report
