Here we are again dipping into the winter temps!  But if you want some real fall/winter temps go up north to Niagara Falls with Tom and Kathy and get locked in this tube (#1) until it freezes sometime in December!  Nice yellow wetsuit Kathy!  "Niagara Falls!"  Slowly I turned..."  (anybody remember that line and who said it?)

So, morning temps have been running right around the mid-sixties.  This morning it was 55.5º and the water is down to 62.1º.  Clear skies, but the wind at 5 to 10kts and freshening, has driven the water temp down to 62.1º.  High tide at 8:16am +5.4' and low tide at 2:35pm +0.8'.  It's a rockin' west swell out of 271º at 6.6' and it looks like a rugged 5' to 7'.  Laurie tried to standup paddle out and didn't make it outside.  Laurie is a world class canoe paddler and if she can't make it outside neither can we...

Possibly the next session of the South Bay Scholastic Surf League's "Kickoff Classic" tomorrow starting at 6:30am on the southside of the Hermosa Pier.  Great Prep surfing if you can weather the cold!  Also thanks to all the folks who donated to the SnapRaise™ event to raise money for the team!  You're heroes!

W hen you"re on the road essential services are sometimes at a premium.  Take the case of Cat Simmons who had scheduled a skin cancer surgery only to have a surf trip come up and whisk him away.  But no worries!  Here at our "Mobile Auxiliary Surf Hospital" (M.A.S.H.) our anesthesiologist Dr. Souther and head surgeon Prof. Dr. Paine went right to work! (#1)  An outpatient procedure, he was back in the water for the afternoon session.  A biopsy revealed that instead of being cancerous the lesion was a bit of frijolé from breakfast.  Better safe than sorry, we say. 10 miles visibility under mostly clear skies this morning.  Winds were off by 3 to 5kts and the sea surface was brushed smooth.  The air was 45.0º and felt like 32, while the sea temp was 57.7º and felt just like that.  High tide was at 10:51am +4.9' and low tide follows at 5:47pm +-0.0'.  It's a west swell out of 262º at 2.6' and it was an amazing 3' to 5...

Cavalcade Of Champions Monday Surf & Culture Report

L et's start out with our own Tom Welch (#1) who got 4th Place in the Hermosa Triathlon this last Sunday at the Hermosa Pier.  While the rest of us were trying to find parking, Tom was biking, swimming and running and doing it better than all but three of his fellow competitors.  Congrats to Tom and we imagine next year will find him on top of the podium... H azy sun and barely 6 miles visibility this morning.  Winds wee light onshore, 1 to 2kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 65.7º and the water has jumped to a fine 70.2º.  Low tide was at 7:11am +2.5' and high tide will be at 3:11pm +4.7'.  It's a SSW swell out of 207º at 2.3' and it was 1' to 2' and perfect for today's start of the Galactic Small Wave Championships. Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report
