We were on a surf trip down south and we pulled up at a spot that had a sign much like this one (#1).  We all looked at it and Jim Campbell said, "What does that sign say?"  We all shrugged.  Surfers can't read "No Trespassing" signs...

Overcast this morning with 10 miles visibility and winds light offshore out of the SSE.  A rolling sea surface with 61.5º in the air and 65.5º in the water.  High tide was at 7:54am +5.2' and low tide will be at 1:41pm +1.3'.  It's a SSW swell out of 192º at 3.9' and it was a thumping 3' to 4' with some fat outsides.  Could be some waves for the next few days!

Today is Columbus / Indigenous People's Day.  Big news out of Spain is that Columbus wasn't exactly an Italian, but a Sephardic Jew from western Europe (most likely Spain.)  They've done a DNA workup on some of his remains, and concluded that it IS him that's buried in the cathedral in Seville (which if you've never been is a grand and glorious sight) and that he was probably not making a big deal out of the fact that he was a Jew in light of the 1492 Inquisition decree.  When you think about it, it makes sense he was trying to distance himself and the New World was about as far away as you could get in 1492.  Reports are that none of this makes the Indigenous People any fonder of ANY of us immigrants...

O ut here in the great wilderness we spent most of a week with Brother Miloe and Billie Bob Mason skidding down the various slopes of Brundage Mountain near McCall, Idaho.  Conditions varied, but for the most part it was spring skiing and the last couple of days were downright hot!  Temps were in the 50's and when you're skiing that tends to warm things up a bit.  We were down to bare knuckles and T-shirts under our nylon shells.  No crowds! (#1) A good time was had by all until Julia got stuck in some gooey snow and pulled a hip bone.  Nothing serious, but they wrapped her burrito style and the Ski Patrol slid her down the mountain where she began to come around fairly quickly...  This is what happens when you go slow! W e have no idea what's going on with the buoys!  The 46221 Buoy had the water temp this morning at 56.8° which is the coldest we've recorded this year!  Brrr!  High tide was at 7:23am +4.7' and low tide is at 2:24pm -0.4'.

We Came On Different Ships, But We're All In The Same Boat Thursday Surf & Culture Report

F ound these cool sweatshirts (#1) at Spyder on the Plaza.  They show all of the cool South Bay surf spots and wave magnets.  We managed to get these cool women to show off the threads... H eavy overcast and not quite 7 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore by 2 to 4kts and the surface was generously textured.  The air was 58.5º and the water is 58.5º.  Overcast, windy and chilly, this isn't sounding great is it?  Low tide is at 11:46am +0.6' and high tide follows late at 6:44pm +4.3'.  It's a SSW swell out of 212º at 2.3' and that's about how big it was with a few fatter outsides. F or those of you who knew Brian Sullivan his funeral will be held at St. Lawrence Church at 1pm on Saturday.  Still can't quite believe he's gone... ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Teach A Fish To Fly Friday Surf & Culture Report

Wouldn't it be nice to have some surf to report about?  The simple answer is "yes."  But, and it's a big BUT, we're going to forge ahead and give you the particulars anyway.  5 miles visibility and pretty hazy conditions although it looks like the sun is trying to melt the haze.  Winds were offshore by 1 to 3kts. and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 64.5º and the water is 65.8º.  High tide is at 10:14am +5.6' and low tide follows at 4:55pm +0.6' (Maybe good for a walk on the hard sand.  Don't step on a bee.  Been lots of them on the shallow sand.)  SSW swell out of 206º at 2.3' and it was half of that on the beach.  Just to whet your appetite we've included this shot of the Professor in Nicaragua at "Soupbowls", or "Chicken Soup", or "Noodles".  They were all lefts...
