Rain, Rain Went Away Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Some great women's surfing today at the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Assn's Kickoff Classic.  The Redondo women placed 5 surfers in the Semi's.  Considering there were only 9 spots we did pretty well.  Props to Teagan Meza, Umi Morimoto (#1 shown with Makayla), Clementine Parker, London Meza and Edith Perez!  We also have to mention our own Milly Horstman, who advanced as well despite coming to shortboarding at the last moment!  To give you some perspective the Women's Short Board division started with 47 surfers...

Cloudy with 10 miles visibility.  No rain, despite the early predictions.  Winds were offshore, but the sea surface was significantly textured.  The air temp was 65.0º and the water is 73.4.  Let's see if we can make it into November in the 70's!  Low tide was at 5:32am +3.0' and high tide follows at 12:10pm +6.1'.  It's a SSW swell out of 199º at 3.3' and it was 3' to 4'+ at El Porto...

Here we have Kevin McGoldrick and Matt Parker (#2) both alumni of the Bishop Montgomery Surf Team back when Jim Egnatuk and the Professor were the Coaches.  Both of them are still surfing!  Kevin is currently the Coach at Bishop and Matt has two daughters (Clementine and Billy) on the Redondo Team.  Great to see our surf culture carrying on!

We included this photo of the boys (#3) watching and filming the girls contest.   They were enthusiastically following the action and showing their support for their team.  It's exciting to see the girls generate such great performances and how much the rest of the team appreciates their efforts!
