Lost Boys & Co... N o, honestly we have no idea...  Other than we know that's Sam with the gun.  She looks pretty confident to us.   C loudy this morning with a chance of rain.  Visibility 10 miles.  Winds were offshore by 2.9kts and the sea surface is smoothly to glassy.  The air temp was 56.7° and the water is 60.3°.  High tide was at 9:13am +7.1' and low tide will follow at 4:27pm -1.3'.  The #46221 Buoy tells us that we have a west swell out of 268° at 1.6' and we submit that that is as generous as you might ever consider.  We consulted with a number of experts and they all agreed...  it's flat.   ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... N ew to the list today is Phil Oglesby, who was part of the crew who went to El Salvador.  You might remember that Phil was the one who threw his board under the wheels of a runaway 747 filled with orphans to bring it to a spectacular stop.  Our photo features him on top of his favorite mount "Milagro."  He rode it to the soccer game rather than ride the bus.  If it's a fast horse, it's Milagro... L ots of visibility this morning, in the 20+ mile range, with partly cloudy skies.  Winds were offshore by 4.6kts at checkout and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 56.0° and the water was 58.8°.  High tide was just that at 8:29am 7.2' and low tide will be at 3:37pm -1.4', for an 8.6' tidal differentiation.  The buoy is reading a west swell out of 267° at 1.6' and it's about half that big when it gets to the beach.  There is some rain on the way, so maybe the surf will follow the rainy weather......

O ur photos today are cataloged under the general heading, " Paying to Play ."  In the case of Photo #1 we have Jen Doyle and Katie Parkinson smiling over the remains of Jen's board.  As fate would have it, Katie needed a long board for the semi-finals and the always helpful Jen volunteered her ride.  Everything was going great until Katie caught the final wave of the heat and got unceremoniously dumped on the sand.  She was okay, the board... uh, not so good.   A marvelously clear day under cloudless skies and unlimited visibility.  Winds were offshore in the am by 5.6kts and the sea surface was glassy.   The air temperature was 46.1° and the water, after all that wind over the weekend was down to 58.5° at the buoy ( where did you put those booties??? )  High tide was at 7:09am +6.7' and low tide will drain it out at 2:04pm -0.8' for a week of minus tides.  We have a SSW swell out of 192° at 2.0' and dropping. ...

Lost Boys & Co... W hen the sun dips down into the lake it often does so with spectacular results!  Here it sends up a plum of steam as it signals the end of another remarkable El Salvadorian day! R ain yesterday and blowing like an SOB today.  clear skies and unlimited visibility.  Winds started out light and by 10am were 15 - 18 kts.  Sea surface is chopping with large white-caps.  The air temp was a chilly 56.8° and the water was driven down by the wind to 62.8°.  High tide was at 5:33am +5.1' and low tide follows at 11:55am +1.3'.  The buoy shows a west swell out of 275° at 6.2'.  It's jumbled and rough and looking in the 5' to 7' range.  Contest mañana at Hermosa Pier, but it will hinge on whether or not this wind abates.  If it turns around... W e're nothing if we're not about capturing first-time events.  Here we have a shot of Oscar Barahona, taking his first ever SUP ride.  Looks like he's been doing it forevers.  In fact it was hard to believe he had never paddled before.  He swears it was his first go.  Then we have the almost professional quality Danger Boy.  He had actually been on it for a couple of days before Oscar got there.  He was rather ecstatic about the whole thing, as you can see.  We're not SUP devotees, but we could see the utility here on the lake.  A good way to get around and way back into some of the backwaters along the typically impenetrable weeds and hyacinths.  That also reminds us that we need to get a water camera to take back into some of those areas.  You can paddle so far into the trees and inlets that it looks like a National Geographic special.  One morning LoLa and the Professor paddled up to a Night Heron ro...

Lost Boys & Co... H ere we have a photo taken by the noted anthropologist LoLa Carlisle Paine.  She has captured a group of revelers, who are in the process of taking part in a fiesta that started at roughly ten in the morning and went until the sun sizzled into the lake.  We were ferried to Guatemala (entering the country illegally, technically speaking) and began drinking the moment our jungle cruiser hit the dock.  Our host, the pistol packing (okay, it was a Glock, but he had it painted flat-silver) Nathan, kept the Gallo's coming all day long (we didn't drink all day since we didn't start until 10am.)  It was a 10 course meal that included a chicken starter (shown,) shrimp soup, beef, carnitas, salad, 3 varieties of tortillas and his special Guatemalan stew with pork.  To say a good time was had by all would be an understatement of classic proportion.  Note:  Somewhere between the soup and beef, we noticed LoLa wasn't at the table.  We ...

O kay, we're not going to say it was like this every night.  You know, Danger Boy and the Professor serenading the assembled curious.  Honestly, some nights the Professor didn't even wear goggles.  But, a lot of nights he did.  Some hoomalimali on the road... C lear skies this morning and 20 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The ambient air temperature was 65.7° and the water was 62.6°.  Low tide was at 8:37am +3.3' and High tide was at 1:47pm +4.1'.  We have a west swell out of 260° at 2.3' and we're calling it 1' to 2' and poor to worse. M añana we have a So. Bay Surf League contest between Redondo and San Pedro at the Hermosa Beach Pier.  Action starts at 6:30am.  Always fun and even if the surf is small, you'd be surprised at the action...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!
