Hak-Kaff Friday Surf & Culture Report
Lost Boys & Co...
When we started surfing sometime in the stone age, Major Hoople (#1) was still in the LA Times. We thought he was hilarious and we adopted his over blown language and his interjections, like Hak-Kaff! and Har-Rumph! There was also a brief attraction to cigars and fezes. James Campbell was a master of the rum soaked, wine dipped cigarillo and we all thought it was tres clasé to blow smoke rings and hang out above Topaz... Hak-Kaff!
Mostly clear skies and 10 miles visibility. Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth. The air temp was 60.0º and the water is remarkably 73.0º. High tide was at 6:54am +6.0' and low tide follows at 1:33pm +0.2'. The swell has moved to WSW out of 253º at 3.9'. It's 4'+ in El Porto getting smaller to the Avenues...
Contest at El Porto for the girls Longboards and Redondo ended up with Soryn Preston and JuJu Sleeis heading to the finals. We also have to recognize Milly Horstman (Mira Costa) and Zephy de Legarde from SAMO. Some great longboarding and classic footwork. Looking for the finals to happen next week! Brendan Simmons managed to get Marion Clarke and the Professor together to demonstrate league unity (#2)...
Welcoming Anne Dawson (#3) to the Surf & Culture Report. She's a Mermaid in the tradition of Jane Miho and Nancy Langdon. We're always jealous when her group charges out through the pounding surf and we're waiting for it to clean up!
Happy Birthday to Jodi Foster Flicker! Someone said she's "Human Sunshine," but we're not sure she's not "Human Moonshine", which isn't bad either...
