Stuck Like Glue Thursday Surf & Culture Report
Lost Boys & Co...
How often has your day started out like this (#1). In no time at all the crew had gathered on the pier and was offering advice to the stranded driver. For a while he kept creeping deeper until he called for help...
Clear skies and 15 miles visibility, maybe more. Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was lightly brushed. The air temp at checkout was 59.0º and the water is an astounding 72.9º. High tide didn't help the stranded driver at 6:28am +5.7' and he didn't have time to wait for low tide at 12:51pm +0.7'. It was a SW swell out of 233º at 4.3' and it was a plunging 4' to 5' breaking close to shore. We skidded down to Sapphire and got some 2 to 3 footers into the jetty for our amusement...
When the driver got out the chain (#2) we thought, "Now he's got it!" But he couldn't budge it. In a display of human kindness, one of the guys watching on the pier took a coffee and sweet roll to the driver! He got a round of "Huzzahs", but not as rousing as when another tractor finally showed up and pulled the stuck boat anchor out of the sand. We asked him to leave it and start a new reef, but our pleas fell on deaf ears...
