It’s A Fahrten Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... D on't know exactly why we're apologizing here, It's not like you've come to expect highbrow discourse.  But our 7th grade senses of humor have overcome us on this trip and our glee revolves around the word "farht ."  Literally, it means to "drive" but we've come up with our own interpretations. #1. Means to fart in your man cave at your leisure but stop when the wife walks in. #2. Do not fart on the funicular lift or you'll see what happens. #3. Polar bears farting in their inclosure. #4. Austrians go this way to fart. #5. A brain fart, named after Einstein.  Like you forgot whee you parked your BMW. #6. A trumpeting fart, sounding like an elephant or maybe a duck? Low of 55 and high to 65 today in the South Bay.  Winds are currently out of the east at 3.3kts.  High tide will be at 7:55am +6.0' and low tide follows at 3:31pm -0.6' for some afternoon clamdigging.  The water temp is 64.0 and the swell is out of th...

When In Germany (Or Austria For That Matter) Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T here are certain rules that you have to follow when you are in the "Fatherland."  Everyday at 3pm you must find a "konditerei" and stop in for a piece of cake, strudel or pie for the afternoon respite.  NOW, this is also when you have your first beer or gluhwein of the day.  The beer seems to be lighter and every konditerei has its  own version. We are not beer drinkers by any stretch, but we are also not going to buck tradition.  Gluhwein is hot fruit punch (or Aperol or mulled wine or cider) heated to sipping hotness.  When it's cold outside (and it is), one of these will warm the cockles of your heart and have you thinking that you might need another.  One  of these is good for strolling, two has you singing carols and three, you suddenly think you need to buy all those kitchie souvenirs for the folks back home… Speaking of back home, it's a bit hazy on the cams with a half a mile visibility.  Winds are out of the E...

What If We Told You We have No Idea What Day It Is Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... So here we are near Berchtesgaden Germany and we're getting ready to do the tour of the salt mines and the "Hitler" tour, which might be one and the same.  We just had brekky at a cute little cafe that looked like Hansel & Gretel had just pulled off a couple of candy canes and had started on the gingerbread.  In the photo you see the bread basket that comes with the meal.  My breakfast actually came with beer, which they generously let me switch to coffee… Maybe manana on the beer… Ahh no. Generously using the interweb, we've determined that low tide is at 9:11am +2.4' and high tide is at 2:20pm +3.8'.  The water temp is 64.0 and the air is 60.0 and heading up to 72!  Quite summery.  The surf is 1' to 2' out of the SSW and if we were you we'd go for a paddle and some coffee.  Or Ht Chocolate!  Brother's now has hot chocolate… "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Gluwhein On Top Of Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... Just when you thought it was good to go back into the Christmas market, they stopped charging for the mugs and let you take them for free.  Most places charge 5euros for the mugs and you get it back when you're through.  Of course we had to work on the entire set.  Here is LoLa headed for another mug.   Beef in all forms from steak and veal to roasts is popular, but they go crazy for piggy!  Sausages, wursts and various knuckles, feet and organ meats are on the menu.  The professor had chicken liver soup and proclaimed it delicious… "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Lost Boys & Co... Headed to Lake Konigsee to see the amazing trout and eat them at the island restaurant.  In the photo we have at least two ski runs (closed because it hasn't snowed enough yet) and Berchtesgaden hidden by the tree where Adolf hung out with his sweetie Eva. More later… "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Munching in Munchkin Land Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... N o, that's all wrong!  We'll be munching in Munich as we begin our tour of Southern Germany over the next few weeks.  The report will be sporadic, but we'll try to fill you in on the high points (some of which will be in the Alps.)  But first... A beautiful clear morning with 15+ miles visibility and not a cloud in the sky.  Winds were light offshore 2 to 4kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air at checkout was 48.9 º  and the water is holding at 64.6 º .  High tide was at 5:49am +5.9' and low tide will be at 12:43pm +0.1' setting up for some afternoon minus tides the rest of the week.  It's a pounding WSW swell pout of 2561 º  at 3.3', but it's bigger in the surfline with some outsides at 6'.  Take a look at this left that Jackson Owens snagged (#1).  You had to be patient but there were some zippers... P erfect for wearing in the Lobster Lounge (#2).  Dylan M. sporting some classic crustacean slipp...
