Atotonilco Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So it's an "Atotonilco Tuesday", mostly because like Doc with "Huachinango" it's just fun to say.  Atotonilco is just down the road from Delores Hidalgo, where Fra. Miguel Hidalgo rang his church bell and gave what is known as the "Grito de Independencia" on September 16, 1810.   To this day the President of Mexico re-enacts the cry and recites the names of the fallen heroes who died in that war.  The church in Atotonilco has these brilliant frescoes, that still today retain their vibrant colors. (#1). "Viva Mexico, Viva Mexico, Viva Mexico!"

Foggy here this morning with less than 2 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore 6 to 8kts and the sea surface had a definite rough texture.  As the morning has drawn on the wind has subsided a bit and it looks better at 11 than it did at 7:30.  The tide that was high at 6:48am +5.1' probably didn't help and as it lowers to -0.6' at 1:52pm things might start looking better.  The air was 53.2 and the water is 57.7, waiting for all conditions to warm up!  It's a SW swell out of 223degrees at 3.3' and it was a mushy 2' to 3' at checkout.

Outside one of the local eateries we found this carved depiction of the "Grito" (#2).  Mexican history really gets pretty fascinating after 1810.
