No Ficus Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, if you ask someone what's to see in Cambodia, they'll for sure tell you Angkor Wat and the temples there.  What they might not tell you is that the big deal is to watch the sunrise over the temple towers.  During the solstices they'll get over 20,000 people there to watch the sunrise.  When we were there only 2,000 showed up, BUT they all wanted to get the sun right behind the main tower.  Since the sun travels a bit from east to north, you had this wedge of humanity trying to get the best shot.  This was our vantage point (#1) before being swept along out of the perfect line of sight for the sun at the top of the temple...

Meanwhile it's still storming here and it's 3 miles visibility under spitting skies.  Winds were onshore until 8:30 when they magically shifted offshore.  The sea surface is ragged, but Von Stutzcanhang thinks it will be rideable later.  The air was a frigid 48.0 and the water is not warm at 55.6.  High tide is at 10:00am +5.' and low tide follows at 4:16pm +0.1'.  A fat west swell out of 270 at 5.6' and it's easy 6' to 8' and good luck to Christian...

Everyone familiar with the "Tomb Raider" series will recognize the roots growing out of the temples.  These are a variety of Ficus tree and they are every bit as invasive there as they are here!  There's scarcely a wall that doesn't have some roots meandering out of the structure.  Here we have LoLa and the Professor (#2) moving just fast enough to stay ahead of the onslaught...
