  • Not saying the odds on anyone are particularly strong, But we're going with Pizzaballa because what a great name for a Pope!

  • Day started out with partly cloudy skies and then the clouds closed in and the temps dropped.  The air was 58.0º and the water is 62.1º and let's hope the wind doesn't drop the temperature.  Currently it's 10 to 15kts and the sea surface is white capped.  High tide was at 6:55am +4.0' and low tide will be at 1"06pm +0.6'.  It's a SSW swell out of 204º at 3.3' and it was a solid 4' close to the sand this morning.

    • The VEFA Art Gallery has not only been putting on some great art shows, but it's also been a performance venue.  On Saturday a Long Beach based percussion ensemble played, there was a classic guitar set and here (#2) we have Suzi singing with Cat Lincoln and the group "Sin Palabras."  We'll endeavor to let you know when the next event is going to happen.

W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

    Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report

    Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

    Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
