Waving Cat Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

(#1)  Here we have LoLa with a small collection of "Maneki-Neko" or the beckoning cat. They are popular with business people and those in commerce as they are believed to attract customers and money.  The right paw raised is to get more customers and the left paw raised is to make more money.  This location is a shrine to the Maneki-Neko and they probably have around 10,000 or so figurines on display.   Today you can get ones with solar powered arms to help scoop up business, but the originals were wood, stone or bronze.

Wind was up early and actually laid off a bit throughout the day.  Mostly clear skies and 10 miles visibility.  The air temperature was 60.0º and the water at the buoy is 64.8º, but marginally warmer near shore.  High tide is at 9:40am +5.9' and low tide will be at 4:38pm +0.1'.  It's a SSW swell out of 211º at 3.5' and it was 2' to 4' and some wonky waves for the "Kickoff Classic" at 26th St. Manhattan.

Seems like no detail is too small.  Here #2, is a display at a restaurant.  Everything is shown in it's best form and made to attract customers.  Could be a jewelry shop.  With a display like this you don't need a beckoning cat!
