Hold Me Tight Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

P hoto #1.  It's alright to stick your surfboard out the window like this, if the road looks like the one in photo #2.  The bigger problem might be the science fair sized, rocket shaped antenna that is sitting right in the middle of the window.  Perfect for staying in contact with Saturn, not so much for driving... Puerto Escondido, Mexico... A beautiful morning with clear skies and 20+miles visibility.  Winds were lightly offshore at 2.1kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 65.3˚ and the water was 67.8˚ and as clear as it gets.  You could see the bottom at 20+ feet and the waves looked like liquid glass.  We watched Tandis Morgan and the Capitán through the little panes as they zipped along the Hermosa Beach break.  Low tide was at 6:49am +2.8' and high tide will be at 1:34pm +5.0'.  We have a WSW sell out of 255˚ at 3.0' and it wasn't quite that big at most spots.  It supposed to get be...

Y ou could skim board on this stretch of beach forevers!  Just think if you had a kite and a skim board!  Only problem is that you might get going a bit too fast.  In the afternoon the winds get up to 35kts on most summer days.  You make one mistake and you find yourself in Western Sahara or Northern Mali...  Essoueira, Morocco...  T iny bit cooler this morning with 62.6˚ air at checkout under clear skies.  20+ miles visibility and the water was 70.0˚ and winds were calm.  Low tide was at 5:57am +2.4' and high tide will be at 12:31pm +5.2'.  We have a smart SW swell out of 224˚ at 3.0' and it's just like that in the lineup...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!

W e got a couple of notes suggesting that Sam was surfing topless!  So we went back and looked at the series and it's clear, after several reviews, that she is appropriately girded.  Not that it wasn't warm enough... T en miles visibility and some early clouds, burning off early.  Winds out of the SW at 3.5kts and the sea surface was a tad bumped.  A lot of early wind lately, calming down mid-morning.  The air temp was 72.3˚ and the water was 68.5˚.  High tide was at 10:16am +5.5' and low tide will follow at 4:40pm +0.7'.  There's a SW swell out of 236˚ at 3.0' and it was small along the avenues and some head high outsides at Hermosa...  It's supposed to be building as we speak... A nd there wasn't anyone around... H appy Hour tomorrow at 5:30pm at the Mermaid in Hermosa.  That venerable locale will be our gathering spot and we'll try to grab a table outside to watch the carnival that is the Strand.  Jen the barkeep...

H ere's Sammy flying across a nice wall.  This is one of those where you're trying to decide if you want to travel all the way down the line or kick out before the paddle becomes a saga... A few clouds breaking up this morning and 15 miles visibility.  Winds were on from sunrise but calmed a bit to 2.6kts and the sea surface had a slight bump.  The air temperature was 66.5˚ and the water was nice at 69.1˚.  High tide was at 9:51am +5.4' and low tide will be at 4:05pm +0.7'.  We have a SSW swell out of 199˚ at 2.6' and it was 2' with some fatter outsides favoring the patient and sharp of eye... I f you thought the bugs in Mexico were big, this one in Torrance has most of them beat...   Most of them...  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."  The Professor!!

" H ow many Portagees does it take to change a lightbulb?"  Marco says, "Two!" but the answer is actually one!  Except he can't do it today because it's a feast day and it will have to wait until tomorrow...  wait, that's a feast day too!  Let's try for Thursday...  Marco and the Professor hangin' out in the park eating linguiça sandwiches and drinking rosé wine... A beautiful fall morning with 20+ miles visibility and clearing skies.  Winds were lightly onshore by 1.2kts and the sea surface was smooth and wet to the touch.  The air temperature was 65.5˚ and the water was 70.9˚.  High tide was at 9:29am +5.2' and low tide will be at 3:33pm +0.9'.  We have a fluctuating west swell out of 251˚ and it was 3.0' this morning and about 2' in the surfline... T here seems to be a bit of confusion about the equinox.  It was listed as September 23, 2:29 UTC.  That translates to 7:29pm September 22 in Los Angeles! ...
