Cloudy this morning with less than 4 miles visibility.  Winds are offshore by 2 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was 51.0 at checkout and the water is 58.1.  High tide was at 6:23am +5.5' and low tide follows at 1:50pm -0.2'.  It's a west swell out of 260degrees at 4.6', but it's pounding at 5' to 6' and looks a bit chilly and not so welcoming.

Here (#1) we have the group discussing New Year's plans.  Breakfast at Brother's leading off the discussion.

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report

Teach A Fish To Fly Friday Surf & Culture Report

Wouldn't it be nice to have some surf to report about?  The simple answer is "yes."  But, and it's a big BUT, we're going to forge ahead and give you the particulars anyway.  5 miles visibility and pretty hazy conditions although it looks like the sun is trying to melt the haze.  Winds were offshore by 1 to 3kts. and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp was 64.5º and the water is 65.8º.  High tide is at 10:14am +5.6' and low tide follows at 4:55pm +0.6' (Maybe good for a walk on the hard sand.  Don't step on a bee.  Been lots of them on the shallow sand.)  SSW swell out of 206º at 2.3' and it was half of that on the beach.  Just to whet your appetite we've included this shot of the Professor in Nicaragua at "Soupbowls", or "Chicken Soup", or "Noodles".  They were all lefts...
