Tlyuda Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... Well another Tlyuda Tuesday in the Mexico City Airport.  The good news is is we got a dip at Punta Zicatela this morning, the bad news is that our layover in Mexico City D.F. Is 3 1/2 hours, but the other good news is we got into the lounge and managed to get some nap time on the plush seats.  Meanwhile at home the low this morning was 61 and the high is 70.2.  High tide was at 10:46am 3.8' and low tide will be at 2:32pm +2.4'.  We're back tomorrow and it looks like we have SSW swell out of 205 at 3.3' and it's 2' to 3' with some little grinders.  The water temp is 63.9 in Hermosa and in Puerto Escondido it's 88.3.  Not looking warm and fuzzy.  Well, maybe fuzzy… Okay, the water was 88, but the waves on the outside of the point were 12 to 15'.  Alejandro was the only on of the five of us that got out.  He got a grinder from the second point all the way to the beach.  Meanwhile the Professor displayed remarkable whit...

Lost Boys & Co... A couple of things we don't do:  Ride Zicatela or take bucking boat rides.  Don't ever say there are things you don't do because life kinda throws them at you.  To be honest we only rode the inside of the Point, but we were compelled to take a boat/surf trip to Carrizalillo to do some surfing on the south corner of the bay.  A huge improvement over La Punta.  So yes we're in Mexico, but let's take ourselves away from 88 degree water and visit Hermosa a Beach. In Hermosa the water is 64, mere 24 degrees different.  It's a SSW swell that's 3.0' and it's 1' to 2' on the sand.  High tide was at 10:04am +3.8' and low tide was at 2:03pm 2.3'.  We're back tomorrow night and honestly  we're going to miss the warm. #1.  Apparently when toasting with a bottle of Corona your arm hairs are only supposed to be less than 3/4 of an inch.   Thanks to E.B. For the precision trim! Back home tomorrow evening! "When the...

Lost Boys & Co... S o here we have a shot of the surf lesson break just outside of the Kiahuna Plantation on Kaua'i.  This is the inside smaller section, but about fifty yards outside is a nice peak that the Professor kept trying to catch.  The only problem was that if you caught it, you had to negotiate the surf school once you got up and were steaming along.  Since most of the participants were youngsters, they were amazed that someone so wizened could still be out there.  So they cheered and he cheered and after all that' s what it's all about... C loudy this morning with less than 10 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore early 3 to 5kts and the sea surface was a bit tacky.  The air temp was 61.5 º and the water has dropped to 62.8 º  at the buoy.  (In Kaua'i the locals thought things were chilly and the water was 78!)  High tide was at 7:37am +3.1' and low tide follows at 12:35pmn +1.7'.  It's a SSW swell out of 194 º  at 2...

A Wili Wili Wednesday Surf & Culture. Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... What's the idea of having it rain on June the 3rd in Southern California?  It appears that it was enough to lower the water temp by a couple of degrees.  So now we're looking at 63.3 instead of 65-something.  Who's in charge here?  It's a SSW swell out of 197, so it's pretty oblique.  It's reading 3.6' and it looks more like 2' to 3' in Hermosa and a little smaller at Sapphire.  The wind is raising a bit of tack so earlier was better. We'd like to know how many of these fish I.D. Cards they sell a year in Hawaii.  We had one that was delaminating to the point that several species had left the reef.  Actually this trip revealed a couple of fish we hadn't seen in the past.  We identified a Picasso Triggerfish and a Titan Scorpion Fish.  Also some of the fish we've seen in Kaua'i seem to be larger than on some of the other islands.  Maybe because there are fewer folks chasing them around.  Also tons (literall...

Lost Boys & Co... Still working on trying to get this font to cooperate.  Maybe almost got it. We're at the Keahuna Plantation on Kaua'i and it's quite nice and there's a break out front that is docile enough if you can dodge the surf classes.  The nice thing about that is that they all cheer when the Professor stands up because they think he's in the class!  Actually, he's cheering as well! Checking the surf at home, we have 10 miles visibility under partly cloudy skies.  It was a low of 61.0 and the high is supposed to get to 69.  Winds are mostly out of the south up to 8th and the sea surface is sporting a bit of texture.  We (you) are having a SSW swell out of 211 at 4.3' and it's 2' to 3' and looking just a wee bit wonky. Hope that report was nearly accurate.  Big sports day today especially in hockey and basketball.  Looks like the weather is trying to turn to summer.  Hold encouraging thoughts. Hawaii never fails in the rainbow dep...

Take Off All Your Clothes Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... A pparently if a woman wants a man to look her in the eyes all she has to do is take off all of her clothes.  Here (#1) we have the Professor, at the talk given by Paul Roustan on body painting at the VEFA Gallery, looking directly into her peepers.  There will be new show soon at the VEFA Gallery, but we've been told there is no nudity.  We'll go anyway... O vercast to partly cloudy skies this morning and 14 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the SSE at 1 to 3kts and there was some light texture on the water.  The air was 62.3 º and the water is 65.8 º .  High tide is at 10:58am +3.8' and low tide will be at 3:27pm +2.0'.  It's a SW swell out of 221 º at 4.3'.  It turned ragged fairly quickly, even though it was in the 3' to 5' range. I n photo #2 we have an original Bahne Surfboard that was owned by the late and extraordinary Doug Hap.  By all accounts it's never been ridden and Marie, his wife would like to find i...

Having great time in Palm Springs! Wish you were here.🕶️ Sent from my iPhone On May 23, 2025, at 12:10 PM, Frank Paine <frpaine@yahoo.com> wrote: Lost Boys & Co... N ow everything looks like a wavepool.  MoMo and the Professor made a quick Sapphire strike this morning just as the tide was dropping.  There were like 4 people out and this little peak kept rolling through next to the rocks.  If that wasn't enough they had breakfast at the Redondo Brothers!  The hats there read, "Hecho En Redondo!" A bit of overcast burning off and 14miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 62.3 º and the water is a summery 65.1 º .  High tide was at 7:01am +3.99' and low tide follows at 12:41pm +0.8'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.3' and it was 3' and maybe a little fatter. W e got this art shot of the fog rolling in at Hermosa (#2) on Wednesday.  Wishing we could make it look a bi...
