YES, Finally, it's "Talk Like A Pirate Day!"  We know that many of you have been practicing diligently throughout the year and today is your day to shine.   We might add that we know of no one more practiced in the lexicon then our brother-in-law Clyde Rankin who can break into "Pirate Speak" at the drop of an anchor.  Some of our personal favorites:  Shiver me timbers, Ahoy!, Scallywag, Avast! And Matey.  We might add that Keira Knightly, even in our most private conversations, has never used any of those terms.  Okay, maybe "Scallywag" once…

Partly cloudy this morning and 10 miles visibility.  Winds are light and the sea surface is smooth.  The air temp is 68.0º and the water is 70.5º.  High tide is at 8:03am +4.9' and low tide follows at 1:39pm +1.3'.  It's a south swell out of 188º at 2.6' and it's about half of that at our most favored beaches.

Even though it seems a bit "Fallish" consider taking a dip in the ocean before it drops below the magic 70's.

W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
