Windward Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We watched this kid (#1) for at least a half an hour and he never once paddled for a wave.  He would walk the board out to about chest high then jump on as the wave crested.  He would ride it in, angling along the white water and then walk off the board onto the sand (#2).  We estimate he was about 7 or 8 years old and weighed close to 50lbs.  If he keeps this up he will challenge Donnie Souther for the "No Paddle Takeoff" crown (in 2035.)

9 Miles visibility under cloudy skies this morning and the winds were already blustering from the southwest 3 to 5kts leaving a chopped up playing field.  The air, surprisingly, was 67.0º and the water is still swimmable at 68.7º.  In fact we snorked around the jetty at Sapphire early this afternoon and were happy to see a variety of fish and what looked like pretty healthy kelp and sea life.  High tide was at 10:48am +5.5' and low tide drains at 5:30pm +0.7'.  The SSW swell continues at 2.0' out of 197º.  So far hurricane Narda off of Mexico hasn't ventured far enough offshore to cause any waves here.  Kinda like "Narda ventured, nada gained."
