The Post Office Is Already Crowded Monday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... Y ep, it's happening.  The holidays are upon us no matter how much you think it was just Halloween and those pumpkins haven't even gotten moldy yet.  Those "A" types among us are already mailing things and getting their shopping done.  It  is a good night for clam chowder though... W e were fooling around with the RGB levels on this sunset photo at Sapphire (#1) and noticed these white spots that showed up when we tweaked the levels.  Clouds, swamp gas, reflections?  We decided they were alien space craft checking Topaz... P artly cloudy skies and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 54.9 º  and the water is a remarkable 64.4 º .  High tide was at 10:11am +5.4' and low tide will be at 6:19pm +0.2'.  There's a west swell out of 281 º  at 3.6' and it was 4' to 6' and John and Jay were putting on quite a show body surfing and boogeying! Don't Give Up The Ship Friday Surf & Culture Reort

Lost Boys & Co... W e didn't know where "Don't give up the ship!" came from, but you can look up anything on the internet:   It was the famous line delivered by Captain James Lawrence, who commanded USS Chesapeake in 1813 when it engaged in a naval battle with HMS Shannon during the War of 1812. S o, don't.   W hat can one photo of the surf (#1) tell us about the conditions?  First it's cloudy skies with rain on the horizon.  Winds are offshore at 5 to 14kts, blowing some fabulous manes.  It looks chilly and it was 54.0 º  and the water is 64.6 º .  Looks a little full because the tide is high at 8:33am +6.0' and low tide follows at 4:05pm -0.3'.  It's an erratic combo swell periodically out of the N/NNE/S and SSW at 4.6'.  You can see that it's 4' to 5'+ and some beautiful waves if you don't mind...

A Whale Fart Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W e'd like to say we noticed this, but we weren't among the baffled... B ubbling along LA County coast baffles Hermosa Beach residents By Matthew Rodriguez A near-constant stream of bubbles off the coast of Hermosa Beach has caught the eyes of residents, with some venturing into the ocean to find answers. The mystery prompted some theories from residents, including aliens, submarines or a whale farting, but the real reason for the bubbling is much less exciting.  Crews are cleaning underwater fiber-optic lines that run across the Pacific Ocean from California to Asia, according to Rick Devinney, the contractor overseeing the work. He added that the tech giant Meta plans to add a line in the upcoming months, which will require the company to clean out its existing infrastructure to prepare.  The process includes blowing air through the line to ensure the ducts and other things are working correctly.  The city of Hermosa Beach issued a construction no...
