Thank you Billy Joel for our subject line today.  Since it seems a lot of folks here in the Southland don't know how to drive in the rain no matter what they're riding... 

In case you've been too timid to stick your head out this morning, this (#1) is what Sapphire looked like with it's obligatory 8 people in the water.  Seven miles visibility with rain light to almost real rain throughout the day.  Winds were off, holding up the waves.  The air was 60.0º and the water is 65.7º.  It was high tide at 5:46am +5.1' and low at 11:57am +1.6' for some board breaking munchers. Still a SW swell out of 218º at 4.9' and it was 4' to 6' in Hermosa.

(#2)  Doc asked the Professor why he was hiding behind the door of his bus.  He said, "See the guy getting ready to get on his motorcycle without the shirt.  I decided to hide until he left so I wouldn't scare him with my lack of muscles and crepey skin.  I had already scared three ladies coming out of Scottie's."

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!
