Too Many Bays Tuesday Surf & Culture Report
Lost Boys & Co...
Here (#1) we have the beautiful Hanauma Bay. Over the years they've had to limit the number of folks they let in every day to preserve some of the integrity of the environment and it's hoped to let some of the coral that had been trampled by visitors grow back. We saw it 50 years ago when it was still relatively unspoiled. About 20 years ago it was probably at it's low point with vast deserts of rock and sand and little coral. Since then they have gone all out to bring back coral and create an environment for some of the largest variety of sea life that you might see anywhere in the islands.
In and out of the foggies this morning with variable visibility, at times a hundred yards. Wind were out of the north 2 to 4kts and the sea surface was passingly smooth. The air temperature was 53.3º and the water was 61.9º. High tide was at 9:40am +6.1' and low tide will be at 4:26pm -0.9'. It's a west swell pout of 261º at 4.6' and it's a whomping 5' to 7' on the sands in Hermosa...
At the Hannara Diner in Waianae is old school Hawaiian lunch spot. Don't go unless you are really, really hungry. We ordered the luau pork, laulau, lomi salmon, rice and beef stew plate. We ate the leftovers for three days! But you know there's always somebody who's not totally happy with the grinds the first time around and they send'em back. We don't believe it either! So they put up one sign (#2). But we, we were happy! Bruddah Miloe and the Professor contemplating their approach (#3).
