Whitzelsucht Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, if your name is Jane Mermaid Miho, Jodi Foster Flicker, A-Aron Millstein or Big Daddy Brodhead, your 2026 custom calendar will be at Brothers mañana around 9:15.

Moon over Hermosa this morning (#1).  (Do you know how much time we spent trying to create an enlarged moon and then paste it on this shot of the pier?  Waaay too much!)  You can see that the skies were clear, except for that layer of dingy air out there.  Winds were offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 54.9º and the water is 61.7º.  There has been much discussion about the water temperature this year, so we decided to check last year's stats.  Sure enough, last year at this time the water was 57.7º and got all the way down to 54.5º as we slipped into March.  So you know, we're quite happy with 61.7º.  High tide was at 10:19am +5.4' and low tide will be at 4:55pm -0.3'.  Currently we have a west swell out of 274º at 3.3' translating to 3' to 5' on the outside.  Supposed to get bigger this week with Surfline calling it 3' to 4' Thursday, 6' to 8' Friday and 8' to 10' on Saturday.

Not quite ready to leave Hawaii yet, this (#2) is a shot of "Kimo da Kid" taking a break from surfing Tracks.  The great thing about Tracks is that it breaks just about as far out as Hermosa, so you don't have to spend half of the session paddling.  This was the weekend so it was busy, but during the week when the kids are in school it can be relatively uncrowded.  You just have to make sure you don't leave anything in your vehicle that you are attached to.
