No, we weren't going to get out of the bus to check out the surf. We could see it perfectly fine from here (#1).
Rain, heavy at times, cutting down visibility to less than a mile at times. Winds were blowing from all points depending on your location 7 to 17kts. The sea surface is white capped. The air temperature was 54.0º and the water is still 61.7º, despite the wind and rain. High tide was at 8:06am +5.9' and low tide will be at 3:03pm -0.9'. It's mainly a WSW swell out of 247º at 4.3' building throughout the day. Currently the waves are in the 4' to 7' range and wild and bumpy.
Last week we had a number of minus tides in the afternoon. Took this pic of a flock of Royal Terns (#2). In California, more common in winter than in summer. Some southward migration occurs, as the species reaches Ecuador and Argentina in winter. They seem to be attracted to the low tides. We like those swept back crown feathers that look like a flat-top with fenders...
