Desert Surfing Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

This time of year the desert is starting to warm up, in time for the summer surf season!  The Redondo Surf Team hit it this last Sunday and there was some great surfing going on.  Under the watchful eyes of parents, grand parents and team mates the team got some great rides. You can dial up slabs, A-Frames, peaks and all manner of levels.  #1) Looks like a slab to us and you can see the size of the wave here.  Looking overhead and has some real guts to it.

Them hazy skies this morning typical of May gray.  12 miles visibility.  Winds were mostly offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 58.9º and the water is 62.2º.  Low tide was at 5:25am -1.7' and high tide was at 12:07pm +3.6'.  It's a west swell out of 264º at 3.9' and it was 4' to 5' and some of the best shortboarding surf we've had this season.

Doesn't exactly look like a longboard friendly wave, but Giselle (#2) took off in the middle for a trip across the pool on her Takayama.  Shew has this fluid style that matches the environment...
