When spoken properly Scottish is unintelligible to the American English ear.  A good example would be the Robert Buns quote, “Facts are chiels that winna ding, And daurna be disputed.”  So we liked this quote because it mentioned “dings”, but other than that we have no good idea what it means.  But we’ll let you parse out, “That snod’s faith gone, but the steeple aye thirsts frae the hairt o the toon.”

We’re looking at 14 miles visibility under hazy skies.  It was 63.0 at checkout and the high is going t be right around 71.5.  The water is 69.6 degrees at the buoy.  Low tide was at 6:00am -0.4’ and high tide follows at 12:45pm +3.6’.  Winds are light out of the west and the sea surface is smooth.  It’s a south swell out of 187 degrees at 2.6’ and it’s almost that on the beach.  The local harbor in Portree is a colorful collection of shops and restaurants (#1) next to the fishing boat launch.  Not one had the World Cup on the tube…

Took a ride across the Isle of Skye and went to the Fairy Pools.  This (#2) is the home of the “Red Fairies.”  The Red Fairies are intent on keeping you on this side of the pools.  If you stray it might be Shrek inner time for you.  The path winds along the stream and there are pools for miles, or so we heard.  Turns out all this water runs by the Talisker Distillery, where we popped in for a wee dram.  Like surfboard shops that are really clothing shops, the distillery makes sure you can get every accessory and article of clothing with the Talisker logo.  We managed to escape empty handed…

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Pecking Order Thursday Surf & Culture Report

W hat we have here (above) is Doc drawing our attention to a hapless paddler who, first, jumped in by the tower and is now somewhere near 4th St.  He then proceeded to get caught in a rip, pushed into an outside set that tested his leash and his resolve. He managed to get back in to shore, but needed a few minutes to gather himself... J umbled conditions from the winds last night and they're predicted to blow again today and this evening.  Currently its anywhere from 6 to 20kts and the sea surface is chopped up.  The air was chilly this morning at 47.5 º  and the water is 62.4 º , but that might drop with these winds.  Low tide at 6:46am +2.1' and high tide follows at 112:17pm +4.2'.  It's a blustery west swell out of 268 º  at 6.6' and it looks like about 4' to 7' with the wind knocking down some of the peaks.  Swell looks strong though and if the winds change it could be good... Gays Of Hormuz Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T ired of hearing about the Straights of Hormuz... C loudy, gray (#1) and on shore winds 3 to 7kts.  The sea surface is a bit tacked.  The air temperature is 58.0 º  and the water has risen to 60.1 º  in an heroic attempt to lure us back into the sea.  One low tide at 10:31am +1.0'.  It's a 2.3' west swell out of 270 º  and it's an inconsistent 2' to 3' on some of the new sand bars.
