Flying into Boise the smoke from the Oregon fires is impenetrable.  Visibility is about a quarter of a mile.  The entire Northwest is dotted with active fires.  But let’s use our x-ray vision to see the stats in the South Bay…

Ten miles visibility under overcast skies with offshore winds from 3 to 5kts.  Air temperature was 69.9º and the water is 71.4º.  High tide is at 11:01am +3.9’ and low tide will be at 3:36pm +2.3’.  
It’s a SSW swell out of 208º at 4.6’ and it’s 2’ to 3’+.  Again maybe a tight window so hit it earlier than later.

Jimmy Holmstedt (#1) is the best plumber on the planet!  He specializes in impossible situations and crawls into scary places.  We asked if we could be on his team and he gave us this shirt!  Lesson #1:  Water flows downhill (Adam’s law of fluidic precipitation.)

Ivan update:  Ivan Fernandez (#2) came down for a short visit last week and we had dinner with some of his friends.  He & Michele live in Polsbro, Washington and he works for a Sprouts-like independent grocery as their vitamins and supplements manager.  Both of them look chipper as ever and he’s the same witty and personable guy you remember.  Might be the supplements?  He says “Hi” to all his old buds and customers!

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Pecking Order Thursday Surf & Culture Report

W hat we have here (above) is Doc drawing our attention to a hapless paddler who, first, jumped in by the tower and is now somewhere near 4th St.  He then proceeded to get caught in a rip, pushed into an outside set that tested his leash and his resolve. He managed to get back in to shore, but needed a few minutes to gather himself... J umbled conditions from the winds last night and they're predicted to blow again today and this evening.  Currently its anywhere from 6 to 20kts and the sea surface is chopped up.  The air was chilly this morning at 47.5 º  and the water is 62.4 º , but that might drop with these winds.  Low tide at 6:46am +2.1' and high tide follows at 112:17pm +4.2'.  It's a blustery west swell out of 268 º  at 6.6' and it looks like about 4' to 7' with the wind knocking down some of the peaks.  Swell looks strong though and if the winds change it could be good... Gays Of Hormuz Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... T ired of hearing about the Straights of Hormuz... C loudy, gray (#1) and on shore winds 3 to 7kts.  The sea surface is a bit tacked.  The air temperature is 58.0 º  and the water has risen to 60.1 º  in an heroic attempt to lure us back into the sea.  One low tide at 10:31am +1.0'.  It's a 2.3' west swell out of 270 º  and it's an inconsistent 2' to 3' on some of the new sand bars.
