Reporting from the Scottish Lowlands, we find ourselves on Edinburgh Bay, watching the fog roll in from the top of the Royal Mile.  The weather has been absolutely balmy with temps reaching almost 80 degrees!  The folks here are going nuts, while it feels like home to us.  Glad we brought shorts!
 
Our friend and contributor Soraya Simi just released her documentary called Row of Life.  Here’s the synopsis:  Row of Life” follows renowned ocean rower, Marine Corps veteran, 3x Paralympian, and 14x Guinness World Record holder Angela Madsen. In 2020, Angela attempted to row solo and unassisted across the Pacific Ocean, from Los Angeles to Hawaii. What unfolds is a harrowing story of her determination, resilience, and immense courage to pursue the unknown, and the unyielding support of Angela’s wife, Deb, who, separated by a vast ocean, champions Angela’s dream despite the cost.

It’s available to rent on Amazon, Apple and You Tube, so take a look at this great story of grit and determination , not only by the subject, but by those who worked so diligently to tell her story.

In the South Bay the water temp is hovering around 64.2 and that SSW swell is still rolling out of 204 degrees at 3.0’. It’s a high tide at 9:27am +3.1’ and low tide will follow at 1:08pm 2.5’.  It’s 1’ to 2’ and take a look in the am before the wind catches up.

Lost Boys & Co... W hat has this man (#1) been smoking?  Or eating?  Well, that looks like a pozole mustache!  It is pozole season and the mustaches are in... V isibility was a cool 20 miles this morning under clear skies.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 5kts and the sea surface is smooth.  The air was a below-brisk 49.9 º and the water is 62.4 º .  Low tide started off the morning at 5:37am +2.1' and high tide was at 11:25am +5.1'.  It's a west swell out of 264 º at 3.0' and it held all the way to the beach (#3) with some corners for the discrete.  Conditions meshed pretty well for some good sessions. panorama, pre-sunrise, (#2) from the lifeguard headquarters to the end of PV.  Some of these winter morning make for spectacular sunrises...  A  ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Pecking Order Thursday Surf & Culture Report

W hat we have here (above) is Doc drawing our attention to a hapless paddler who, first, jumped in by the tower and is now somewhere near 4th St.  He then proceeded to get caught in a rip, pushed into an outside set that tested his leash and his resolve. He managed to get back in to shore, but needed a few minutes to gather himself... J umbled conditions from the winds last night and they're predicted to blow again today and this evening.  Currently its anywhere from 6 to 20kts and the sea surface is chopped up.  The air was chilly this morning at 47.5 º  and the water is 62.4 º , but that might drop with these winds.  Low tide at 6:46am +2.1' and high tide follows at 112:17pm +4.2'.  It's a blustery west swell out of 268 º  at 6.6' and it looks like about 4' to 7' with the wind knocking down some of the peaks.  Swell looks strong though and if the winds change it could be good... Red Car Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

T here's a spot outside of about 14th St. that they call "Cable Cars."  It only breaks when it's huge and then it might almost qualify as a tow-in spot.  So to begin with it should be called "Red Cars" because that's what they sank there to create an artificial reef.  The Pacific Electric Railroad was going the way of the dinosaurs and they had all of these Red Cars gathering dust.  They sank a bunch of these, in what could be considered a relative underwater desert, then monitored the reef to see if it attracted fish.  Well it did and it inspired J.G. and his crew to consider larger more stable reefs.  It wasn't long before worms ate away most of the wood, but for years the steel wheels looked like pick-up-sticks on the bottom. W e could have used a reef this morning, or more accurately a swell. It was partly cloudy and visibility was 10 miles.  Winds were out of the south 1 to 3kts freshening to 15kts by noon.  Lots of bump...
