Qeqertarsuaq Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Qeqertarsuaq, is touted as the surfing capital of Greenland.  In photo #1 we have this par-frozen fellow riding a shoulder high left in his 5/4 or 6/5 or 7/6 wetsuit.  In the distance you can see the verdant landscape that gives this island it's name.  Wait...  Maybe they should have called it "Whiteland."  This recalls the "Fridgidia" legend written by our elders...

6 miles visibility under overcast, cloudy skies.  Winds were light out of the north 1 to 5kts and the sea surface was lightly textured.  The air temperature was 51.0º but felt chillier and the water is 61.7º.  High tide was at 10:10am +5.6' and low tide will be at 5:01pm -0.5'.  There's a west swell out of 271º at 2.6' and it was 3' to 4' with long walls and few corners.  Lori Armor went out to re-arrange her hair and succeeded at that but not much in the way of rideable surf.  She's a charger...

Here (#2) we have a a fellow riding the wave/surge from a calving glacier.  The nice thing about this set-up is that you can sit by the fire until you see the glacier calve, then you have a few minutes to get in the water and find your takeoff spot.  Once again you can see why they call it Greenland. ???

Enough of this Greenland business.  We'll be heading for O'ahu Friday for a south shore, west side recon.  Will Miloe get us to go to the North Shore?  Maybe for a ride to check it out, but 8' to 10' Sunset seems more than intimidating...

For those who ordered the calendars, we thought we were getting them today (and actually we did), but they were someone else's order.  We didn't think you'd wanted to see cousin Stinky grabbing a rail at Doheny...  We'll let you know when our order arrives!
