Business Goose Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Pier to pier in the South Bay.  We'll start in Redondo (#1) and watch the sun go down on another pretty damned perfect day.  As kids our parents always cautioned us about going to the pier, that is until we got jobs there!  Approximately 1.5 million people visit the pier annually and they all seem to be there when it's a day like today!

Cloudless skies and 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were offshore 1 to 4kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air remains a chilly 47.9º in the morning and the sea temperature is 61.2º.  High tide was at 5:12am +5.1' and low tide was at 1:00pm +0.2'.  It's a west swell out of 273º at 3.3', but the angle is focusing some 5' to 7' waves on both Burnout and Hermosa.  We saw lots of guys get tubed, but we didn't see anyone make it back to daylight.

We turned around in Manhattan (#2) and the sun was below the horizon, but still creating a pretty spectacular backdrop to the day...

Oh yeah, "Business Goose."  When you write Penguin in Chinese, the characters are the one for "business" and the one for "goose."  A pretty apt description.  They might not have known about tuxedos when they came up with the name...
