Last night we ventured to the new Tiki Kai restaurant on the Hermosa Plaza (#1).  More than likely this is what the Professor's Tiki Bar would look like if he had another 1500 sq. ft. on his current venue.  Kinda the Enchanted Tiki RoomEmoji minus the singing birds, although plenty of surf music and 60's quiet village vibe.  A bit spendy, though the ribs and garlic noodles were worth it.  Go with Boris for a complete experience.

Mostly clear through the morning haze and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 53.0º (but seemed much cooler) and the water is 61.5º.  High tide was at 9:50am +6.5' and low tide will be after dark at 5:03pm -1.3'.  (the sun sets this evening at 4:59pm - the days are getting longer!)  It's a west swell out of 259º at 4.3' and it was 4' to 5' and a bit of a struggle between the tide and the wind...

This (#2) is one of our unaltered shots of the sunset a couple of nights ago.  The rain can be a drag, but it makes for some great sunrises and sunsets... Cool low tide as well!

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 º and the water was 61.5 º .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 º at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Adventurous Trial Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

R ead in "The Surfer's Journal", "...which retells the Homeric tale in a series of collages where it's heroes are constructed of black paper cutouts, irrevocably reimagining the aesthetic of the narrative, while asserting the universality of the human quest for self-realization through adventurous trial." ...And we merely thought we were going to go surfing (#1 The Professor, Jah, Jetski and Rasta Pete in the background.) O vercast today (why should it be any different than yesterday?) 7 miles visibility.  Winds were light onshore, 1 to 3kts and the sea was more textured that it should have been.  The air temperature was 64.3 º  and the water is 67.6 º .  High tide was at 9:27am +3.8' and low tide will be at 1:40pm +2.9'.  There's a south swell (which should tell you something right there) out of 199 º  at 2.3' and it was 1' to 2' and poor.
