The Word Is An Image Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

"The Word Is An Image" is a William S. Burroughs quote that maybe got Marshal McLuhan thinking about the message.  But it does raise some questions about the role that letters and words play in terms of what they look like.  Maybe they're not just the elements in the construction of language, but their own thing?

Mattias (#1) is the team photographer.  He might be one of the most popular people on the team.  "Hey Mattias, did you get that sick air I just threw?  Chances are most likely that he did.

And there was a lot to shoot this morning.  It was a clear morning with 20+miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was a tad warmer this morning at 50.0º and the water is holding at 61.2º.  High tide was at 5:54am +5.3' and low tide will be at 1:35pm -0.2'.  Looking at a west swell out of 278º at 2.6'.  It jumped when it hit the sand though and it was a smacking 3' to 5' with few corners.

This (#2) was one of the few corners that came through the office.  The team was working hard in the challenging surf, getting ready for the contest against Penn.  If the surf is like today on Friday, local knowledge could play a critical part.
