Lost Boys & Co... All Hallows Eve Surf & Culture Report Friday, October 31, 2008 Boo! Kinda sneaked up on you there didn't we.  Yeah, we're pretty stealthy when we want to be.  In case you just came back to planet earth, today is Halloween.  Actually, this evening is Halloween.  So if you haven't decided on your costume it's getting pretty damned late.  Our own empirical evidence suggests that Sarah Palin is the most popular costume with women who just happen to have shotguns and winged glasses.  For men it's pirates again this year. Meanwhile the surf seems to be responding directly to the weather.  We have 10 miles visibility and cloudy skies with scattered showers.  It was actually raining at about 4am our time, but not enough to create Danger Boy scaring runoff.  The winds are offshore by 9.7kts and the sea surface is glassy with a bit of cat's paw from the offshore.  The air temp is 64.2f and the water has dropped a couple of degrees to 62.6f.  H

Thermic Thursday Surf & Culture Report 10300

Lost Boys & Co... Thermic Thursday Surf & Culture Report Thursday, October 30, 2008 So here we are on All Hallows Eve Eve and what do you have to show for yourself?  A half eaten bag of mini-snickers... and they were good weren't they.  We just have one question:  How do they make the peanuts smaller? Meanwhile, we're looking at 2 miles visibility with some high clouds and plenty of haze here at sea level.  Winds are offshore by 7.8kts and the sea surface is glassy.  The air temp is 61.5f and the water is 64.2f.  High tide is at 10:02am +5.9' and low tide will follow at 5:17pm dropping down to an impressive -0.1'.  The buoy is reading 2.0' and the surf is a weak 1' and very poor.  Now we want to highlight the disappointment we feel this morning as the surf has fallen from the former 3' to 4' yesterday, to the dreary 1' we have today.  Yesterday was so good that we failed to send out a report.  Yes.  By the time we made it back to the Topaz

Attached you will find a great shot of the Coast Guard Vessel "Bertholf" with an helicopter landing on the aft pad. What you can't see is DC Chiaramonte, making sure that everything is level for a perfect landing. He's down there below decks somewhere. Is that his hat? Out on the ocean's surface we have a beautiful day with 15 miles visibility and a bit of haze on the water. Winds are calm and the sea surface is glassy. The air temperature is 62.4f and the water is 64.8f. We're still wearing a spring suit, but as soon as it gets cloudy... ZIP!! High tide is at 5:45am +3.8' and low tide will be not much different at 9:51am +3.2'. The buoy is reading 3.0' and the surf is in the 3' to 4' range. We surfed Torrance this morning with TJ and hung out at his favorite break "Speedies." There were some good waves, but they took their time showing up. A fun session and a beautiful day to be in the water. Later this week we'll be heading
