Chips In Your Vaccine Friday Surf & Culture Report

Image
Lost Boys & Co... S omeone told us that Bill Gates put microchips in the Covid vaccine so that they (they?) could track your whereabouts and use your body as an adjunct 5-G transmitter...  Here at "Mar y Fuego" our cell reception is lousy, so people are lining up to get the vaccine hoping that their service will improve.  As for your whereabouts, all we have to do is look at Instagram or Facebook and we know where you've been and with whom.  So far all the chips have been in the cookies... T he mornings have been cool, 43.9º and the water is 56.7º and to fortify yourself, you might construct a concoction of Pusser's Rum (#1)...  We advise against the operation of heavy equipment or automobiles if you imbibe.  Consider it in the evening...  Visibility was 15 miles and limited only by the smoke from the fire in Compton that burned tons of pallets and a few high-end tour buses (#2 & #3).  Winds were out of the SE by 3.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  High ti

Lost Boys & Co... T he second dose of the Covid vaccine went as prescribed and at present we are running through all of the possible reactions to the shot.  Currently we are experiencing chills and lower back pain.  That was until we heard that the back pain is typically in the shoulder region so our discomfort has moved to that area in response.  We should mention that this week's meeting of Hypochondriacs Anonymous will be in the Tiki Bar tomorrow evening and we anticipate further symptoms in all their glory in the meantime...  "Hi, I'm Frank and I'm a Hypochondriac..." M eanwhile, we decided to take a bike ride in the sunshine to see what was happening in the bubble.  There appeared to be a tournament going on at 16th St. (#1) that had more than fifty people, few people were wearing masks and contestants were seen yelling, grunting and forcibly broadcasting their germy aerosols into the air...  Looks good if you're planning a gathering of more than fift

Lost Boys & Co... A s near as we can recall, this is the first time we've run the entire sequence of Rebecca's wild photo shoot at Sunset Beach.  This might be a poster for "Never turn your back on the ocean." #1  "Okay, this is my perfect Little Mermaid pose! #2  "Yes, that sounded like a good one, wait... #3  "Wait, wait wait...  I don't recall anything quite this explosive..." #4  "There is now more water above me, than below me...  is that okay?" #5  "Definitely elevating off the rock now and getting blasted into the shore pound!" #6  "As soon as we can find her, we will render assistance... It's also hard to find someone when your laughing your ass off!  This was a real Clark Little moment. T his morning we were greeted with clear skies and strong offshore winds, upwards of 5kts.  The air temperature was 53.1º and the water is 57.2º.  Big tides, with high being at 6:51am +5.7' and low dredging at 2:05pm

Lost Boys & Co... O n Sunday the Black Sand Surfing Coalition held a paddle out in response to the bullying behavior that happened at Manhattan Pier last week.  We'll run their basics tenets tomorrow, but it's basically, be socially responsible especially if the targets are black or indigenous peoples.  Lost Boys and Sruf Familia representatives (#1 & #2) were there and agreed with the notion that we should all choose peace!  That seems easy, but it also seems like we've been saying this since the 60's and the bullshit still goes on... C lear skies and cool temperatures in the morning with the air 46.3º and the water hanging at 56.5º.  Not much wind and the sea surface was smooth.  High tide was at 5:24am +4.8' and low tide sets up a week of minuses at 1:02pm -0.1'.  We have a west swell out of 273º at 3.3' and it was a fun 3' to 4'... T wo boys for every girl (#3) as Tony and Jetski carry Emileep"s board back from the beach.  See how so

Lost Boys & Co... (#1) O kay, LoLa, it's cold, but it's not THAT cold... B ut it was 43.7º, which is cold enough for us, under clear skies and 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth.  The water is 56.7º and there's only one tide today a low at 10:17am +1.4'.  Pretty much the same for tomorrow at 11:38am.  We have a SW swell out of 219º at 3.3' and it was hip to shoulder high with some fun little zippers (#2).  That is until you got to the inside and it got to be more sand than water for your fin-dragging pleasure... W e regularly mention our buddies the mermaids.  Yeah, yeah, we know YOU don't think they exist, but they do and here are four of them (#3) celebrating Nancy's birthday while they sun themselves on the sand before sliding back into the sea.  From L. to R. we have Jane, Peggy, Sue and Nancy...  You can tell they're mermaids because they have long hair, don't have feet and there wasn't anyw

Lost Boys & Co... IMG_1461.m4v IMG_1461.m4v S o in photo #1 we have an excellent example of a "Lumber-Sexual."  Heading off to the forests of Beverly Hills, he will be harvesting the trees, which will be turned into the pulp, that creates the paper money, that the faithful will be spending, as he frames them in the latest Tom Ford, Pierre Cardin and Gucci specs.  We should note that much like Buck's shirt, this item is lined, pocketed and buttoned down... C lear this morning with +20 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 3 to 6kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was 43.9º and the water is 56.7º.  Low tide was at 8:23am +1.6' and high tide follows at 2:06pm +2.5'.  We have a SW swell out of 215º at 3.6' and it was 3' to 4' and a little walled, but still entertaining... M ost of the time in Galveston the fans spin lazily to cool the air, but this (#2) is ridiculous.  The Maharishi had his power restored this morning, much to the delight

IMG_1460.m4v IMG_1460.m4v Lost Boys & Co... T hought we'd start out with this art video (#1) of LoLa and The Professor ascending to the top of the Centennial Chair at Brundage Mountain, Idaho.  It is meant to be serene and placid, as the lift rises silently from the arroyo floor and drenches the riders in sunlit splendor.  Besides the seats being wet with icy snow, immediately soaking our pants, it was remarkable...  Still a little numb down there... C lear skies this morning with 10 to 20 miles visibility (#2) and offshore winds.  If they had stayed offshore it might have been extraordinary, but they quickly turned fluky and managed to tip every point in the compass before coming to rest in the WNW position and blowing things down.  The air remains at a chilly 47.8º and the water is 56.7º.  Low tide drained things out at 6:55am +1.6' and high tide is at 12:30pm +3.1'.  We have a west swell out of 271º at 4.6' and it was 3' to 5' and there were some little s

Lost Boys & Co... T here are locations where you don't want to spend too much time in one place.  The top (7803') of Brundage Mountain, Idaho (#1) might be one of them!  About 17º high on this day and little to no wind, still you can tell that just hours before it was blowing like crazy and if you had been admiring these trees, you might have become one with this frozen arrangement... B ut here in sunny southern California, it was a relatively warmer 51º and partly cloudy.  Right around 10 miles visibility and increasing winds from the southwest (6 to 18kts) and bumped conditions (#2) at checkout and getting downright white-capped at mid-morning.  High tide was late at 11:39am +3.9' and low tide is at 5:51pm +1.1', setting us up for mono-tides at the end of the week.  We have a west swell out of 263º at 5.2' and it was a rugged and chilly 5' to 8' and found everyone looking for more organization.  To that end we discovered this lad (#3) giving the Horse

Lost Boys & Co... " A fter a year of riding waves every day, one surfer decided to keep going..."  If you get The Surfer's Journal then you want to take a look at page 12 and read our own Jah Morgan's journey to maintaining her streak.  It's a great read, but doesn't tell a fraction of her commitment and courage in the face of all the adversities (and yeah, some adversaries as well) and adventures along the way.  We know where she hangs out, in case you wanna get your copy signed...  (She hangs out mostly on the nose #1) P artly cloudy this morning with 10 miles visibility and winds out of the southeast at 5kts.  A slight roll to the sea surface and chilly water at 55.9º, although it beat the 47.9º air.  High tide was at 11:00am +4.5' and low tide was at 5:26pm +0.5'.  We have a consistent swell out of 260º west at 4.6'.  It was 4' to 6' with some bombers coming through Burnout, if you didn't mind the sand blasting endings.  Of cour

Lost Boys & Co... S ign-ups to help Doc ? (#1) get out of his wetsuit in the morning circa 9:30...  He can get in to it fine, but getting out is not so easy.  It's for the next 10 days until the Professor gets back and it's his turn to watch him...  Not seeing any hands out there?  Respond to the "Sruf Familia"... C loudy, with the sun trying to break through (#2).  Visibility was 10miles and the sea surface was calm.  The air was staying chilly at 48.9º and the water dropped another peg to 56.8º.  Low tide was at 9:23am +1.1' and high tide follows at 3:10pm +2.9'.  We have a west swell out of 266º at 3.3' and it was a consistent 3' to 4' and we should report that Doc ? got three good waves!  He's still in his wetsuit though... Y es, the Professor is STILL in the fuzzy jacket that Mr. Christian got him and if he thinks it's cold here , wait 'til he gets to Idaho.  We'll be out until the 15th and Doc really needs someone to help

Lost Boys & Co... F og was thick when we started out riding our velocipedes this morning, but don't ya know that it was clearing by the time we got to the Redondo Pier (#1).  Winds were light onshore, but the surface was bumped a bit and the wet air dropped the temperature down to 49.9º and the water to 57.4º, which is a low for this year.  Low tide was at 7:44am +1.4' and high tide was at 1:18pm +3.5'.  There's a west swell out of 259º at 3.3' and it was a foggy, wobbly 3' to 4'. W e managed to go in and out of the fog, but it was sunny by the time we reached our destination (#2), the ever popular "Ronnie's Diner."  We were quickly advised that the secret to off menu items was Hollandaise sauce.  We ordered the Portagee Bowl (with Hollandaise) and it was great!  Tons of linguica, fresh eggs, rice and the sauce...  Yow-zum!  Then back into the fog... S ome things never change, but some things do...  We found out that Monday, Jimmy Young (Pi

Another Groundhog Day Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... Y es, another Groundhog Day (#1), when Bill Murray can barely contain himself from all of the royalties in the mail...  And what did Phil the groundhog see on Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania?  He saw his shadow predicting 6 more weeks of winter and a late spring...  Thanks, Phil...  Another science denier that Phil... B umpy and irregular this morning (#2) and the photo makes it look twice as good and half as big.  Clear skies and 10 miles visibility and the winds were strong onshore from the beginning of the morning up to 6 to 10kts with bumped, almost choppy seas.  The air temperature was 51.1º and the water is 57.6º.  Low tide was at 6:20am +1.6' and low tide will be at 12:03pm +4.3'.  We have a west swell out of 259º at 3.3' and it was a consistent 3' to 4' with several lines of whitewater and a real slog getting out to the lineup...  Great exercise, not so great surfing... N ever realized smallpox (#3) was this bad... F abulous

Almost Half-Full Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... W e were told this morning that it didn't make any difference if the glass was half-full or half-empty, as long as you had some left in the bottle...  F o' real mermaids (#1), Sue, Jane and Nancy after their swim this morning.  Now you've got your Polar Bears and all those Wim Hof devotees, but these women swim all year long and you can hear them laughing and cavorting as they splash past us.  They're all in fabulous shape, but we have to give props to Sue, who does it all in her swim suit without the aid of a wetsuit!  She's from England and she must have hot tea in those veins! T his weekend we had some really good waves.  Saturday, we caught this pic of Zach (#2) on one of the perfect lefts that came through south of the office.  Sunday we caught Ricki Kramer (#3) unwinding his leash before he hit it.  You can see some of the peaks rolling through.  Our last storm really replenished some of the sandbars that were lacking and digging some swe
