Kinda Fussy Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... I f you think it's crowded surfing, try hiking Mt. Everest this time of year.  There are about 300+ climbers in this queue (#1) trying to get to the top.  "HEY, NO CUTS!"  To top it off (so to speak) it's not exactly a walk in the park.  Three people have died this year waiting to make it to the summit.  We'll be in the bar with the Sherpas... SUNNY today!  A beautiful spring morning with 20+ miles visibility and light winds.  The air temp was 57.5 and the water is 57.0.  Low tide was at 8:38am +0.2' and high tide will follow at 4:22pm +3.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 3.3' and it was 3' and fun at some of our secret spots...  Hermosa is closed for the fiesta, so keep searching... H ere (#2) we have Miloe with the latest "Shaka" model.  It's exactly what you need for those long paddles and equally long carries (note the recessed handle!)  He's been loving the easy turning, no pearling and speed of t

Lost Boys & Co... W hat you didn't know was that Jah Morgan (#1 with little bro David) was a junior champ tandem rider before she was a longboard hero...  Now you know... O vercast and cool this morning at 56.5 in the air and 54.3 in the water.  Wind turned early and added to the bump on the water.  Low tide at 7:41am -0.1' and high tide follows at 3:01pm+3.4'.  There's a SSW swell out of 199º at 4.9' and it was an unruly 3' to 6'.  You had to be in the right spot, at the right time... J ump Rock, Waimea Bay (#2) without 10' of whitewater sizzling down at you... I n case you thought Jetski's Mini was 19 feet long, we moved around to the side (#4) so you could appreciate the fact that he parks 4 feet from the curb so you can tell someone is in the space...  Driving has a certain level of complexity, but parking shouldn't be that difficult... H ere we go again!  Samba on the patio at 5:30.  If it rains we get wet, then we go inside...  ✠ "

Lost Boys & Co... R ain this morning as we bumped along checking out the usual spots.  Sapphire was flat (#1) until the wind started blowing and it turned into 6' of churning foam.  180 degrees to the right (#2) it looked especially calm... T he rain lasted until about 10am and then it went from partly cloudy to wild sun.  Winds started out from the south east and then flipped to west at 25kts with some fine spray.  The air temp was 60.0 and the water was 60.4.  High tide at 8:25am +4.5' and low tide followed at 2:08pm +0.5'.  We had a SSW swell out of 210º at 4.3' and that all moved from the west about mid-day.  The surf was 1' to 3' in the morning and ended up being a tumbling 5' to 6' in the afternoon... W hat to do when the surf is blown out?  How about putting some woven mat into the door panels of the bus (#3)?  Okay, that works for us! S ometimes four eyes are better than two.  Sometimes, not so much... (#4) L aurel Tavern this Friday for some

Lost Boys & Co... A s you've probably heard already through the coconut telegraph, in Spain at the Ferrolog Contest Jah Morgan (#2) got second place and Christian Stutzman (#1) got FIRST!  From the looks of the waves, the surf in the South Bay was an excellent warm up for Spain!  Beautiful sparkling green water too... F ifty shades of gray this morning under overcast skies that never quite cleared.  Winds were variable onshore and the sea surface had a slight bump to it.  The air was 62.5 and the water is 61.0.  High tide was at 6:28am +4.5' and low tide was zero's at 12:49pm.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 3.9' and it was 3.0' and maybe a bit fatter on the outside.  The weather militia tells us that wind and rain are on the way for Thursday, but conditions will be prone to deteriorate as the front slides through... H aven't you always wondered what the people at the bank say when you walk in with one of those huge checks (#3)?  That's probably beca

Lost Boys & Co... T he Professor was extremely interested in these two VW Vans (#1 & #2) that were at the Mexi-Log-Fest.  They had been converted into a bar and an ice cream stand.  When the party's over all you do is close the roof and move on to the next event.  As near as we can tell, all it takes is a can opener and some shelving... O vercast this morning and 7 miles visibility.  Winds were variable.  The air temperature was 63 and the water is 62.2.  High tide was at 5:15am +4.5' and low tide was at 12:02pm -0.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 202º at 4.3' and it was 3' and Bacallao and the Doc got some good ones... N O!  There is NO BICYCLE PARKING at Hennessey's... H ere we are in Rockwall, Texas this weekend.  We do a double-take as we look down the block and see the ocean (#4)...  Rockwall is in northern Texas, a long way from the ocean (in this case the Gulf of Mexico.)  Turns out we were seeing Lake Ray Hubbard!  A pretty good sized body of wate

Lost Boys & Co... H eading out over the So. Bay on a cool gray day (#1) we made our way to Saladitas to watch the Mexi-Log-Fest.  Christian and Jah Morgan were invited and we took it upon ourselves to check out Saladitas, after these many years... C loudy and overcast (a lot like our #1 photo) and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were out of the west by 6.5kts and seas were chopped.  The air temperature was 58.8 and the water is 59.7.  Low tide was at 6:42am -0.5' and high tide will be at 1:31pm +3.3'.  We have a SSW swell out of 195º at 3.6' and it was 1' to 2' on a oblique swell beat down by the direction and the wind... W as warm and sunny on the beach and here (#2) we have the crew (l. to r. LoLa, Canadian surfer Lydia Ricard, Christian and Max) watching Jah's heat.  She ended up in the middle of the field that was comprised of both amateurs and pros, including Kassia Meador, Honolua Blomfield, Avalon Gall and Keani Conullo. Y oung Stutzman (#3) hung in there
